A new Sport Cruiser with Outboards?

Sounds like a great boat. SeaRay must have been ahead of their time. I read the magazine articles on the Venture and they gave it good reviews. Love the speed and efficiency. Plus the Venture's Transom/Platform would get the approval from my wife.

Does yours have a bow thruster?

Yea it's truly something else but of course not without its quirks. It does have the bow thruster. Very useful in tight spots at the fuel dock etc...

The only boats I have found are the Regal 33 XO, and the Sea Ray Venture 370. Powered by Yamaha and Mercury, respectively. Any others yet?

"I saw both the venture, and Cruisers outboard cruisers at the boat show the year they were introduce." You must have meant the SR Venture and the Pursuit 365i.

Sea Ray has two of these O/B cruisers in the works as of now. Tiara (S2) also has 3 boats O/B cruiser/sport coupe's quite similar in the works. They are already testing the first one.

I meant the SR Venture and the Cruiser's competing model. This was at the Boston boat show 4 (5?) years ago. I have always thought Pursuits were the outboard stepchildren of the Tiara family. Kind of like Sea Ray and Whaler product lines.

The cutwater 302 sport coup is a new entry in the OB cruiser space.

Cruisers does not, and never has made an outboard cruiser in the last decade plus.

How about a 2018 Mares 45 Catamaran with outboard power. Looks cool.

I use your swim platform for my dinghy which is a requirement the way we boat. I'd love an ob powered hard top full windshield cruiser but would prefer the venture style with a pair or 350's and 4 blades props

I can understand this reasoning, but my need for a dinghy is greatly reduced/eliminated with the Regal 33 XO since I would be able to get closer to shore, especially here in Florida.

Does this count - Formula 430 Super Sport - still has a swim platform of sorts and very respectable speed.

Here in Florida my family wants a cabin for a place to cool off or get away from the afternoon monsoons. Since there's usually around 8-10 people on board that nixes the Formula since the cabin is tiny.

I was on board of the Arrow 42 footer at the Miami show this past February. So far it's the only outboard cruiser that meets our criteria. My wife, daughter and I made a list of requirements when when we were boat shopping last year. Each item was discussed and made rule for good reasons based on how and where we'd use the boat and where it would be moored. We were looking at both express cruisers and Bridge type boats at that time and every time we thought we found the perfect boat we'd refer back to the list and realize something was missing. So far the only change we want to entertain is the power being outboards otherwise everything else is on this list is perfect for us:

Two Staterooms with doors
Split Berths in 2nd stateroom (bunks preferred?)
Swim Platform (bigger is better)
Seating for 8 in the cabin
Seating for at least 8 in the Cockpit or Bridge
Gas or Diesel ok.
No Core below waterline
Prefer no Balsa at all.
Sunpad for at least two.
Under 40' LOA
Under 14' Beam
3' Draft or less.
AC systems big enough for Florida.
Generator big enough for the AC systems plus
Separate Head and Shower. Split is a plus
Stairs to the bridge not a ladder.

interesting concept , but as for asthetics, I would like to see those outboards tucked into a cavity of some sort so that the lines of the boat aren't ruined. of course having that cavity being able to open up for maintenance access.

I like the looks of the boat in the OP's "spy photo" and don't mind at all the outboards hanging off the back end.

Ken, interesting list you put together. We came at the purchase from a different angle--we had a list but it was scrawled in the mud not chipped in concrete. What we were looking for was a boat that "grabbed" us with what it had to offer. It had to fit most of the items on our list but there was flexibility in the list.

A word of caution about the "bigger is better" swim platform. We had a BIG one added to our boat when we bought it and when we got into some very big waves the bow went up, the stern went down and the swim platform went "ouch" as it broke.

Here's when it happened......

Hey guys, Since I will be in the market by spring 2018 and have 0 experience, I am looking for words of wisdom. I had one more boat to add but it may be just a tad smaller than others mentioned in this thread: Rodman spirit 31 outboard. You guys any thoughts of this one?

Thanks for sharing and please update with new coming out.

Sea Ray 320 Outboard

The 320 Outboard continues Sea Ray’s bold new vision for sport cruising by blending the values of a cruiser and a bowrider with the versatility and efficient performance of triple Mercury Marine outboard engines. From the spacious open bow with robust lounge seating, to the generous cockpit with wet bar, to the beautifully designed cabin with sleeping accommodations for four, the Sundancer 320 Outboard offers the best of both worlds — day boating and cabin cruising. And with a beautifully designed transom area and full swim platform, boaters enjoy the benefits of outboard power with no trade-offs in terms of space

It looks like standard power is triple 250s. I would like to see the performance report for the 2 x 350s from the spy shot earlier in this thread (700hp vs 750 hp with 1 less engine worth of weight and drag). Third motor probably helps the small diameter outboard props get on plane, plus would keep the engines lower in the rpm range. Overall exciting direction Sea Ray is headed in, just needs a full windshield.
