Great boat. Great motors. Make sure the raw water components have been serviced (heat exchangers, Sherwood 1730 water pumps and ESPECIALLY aftercoolers!!!! - check boatdiesel.com for servicing tips). If so and the price is right, have a blast!
Mine has a Norcold DE-0041 in that spot. You might have to modify the opening to fit trim pieces, etc... (not sure) but there is a TON of room there under the helm stairs.
Everything I hear says that Cummins QSM-11's are just about perfect engines. There are 2 known problems (exhaust manifold leaks and front cover oil leaks) but seem to be just about indestructible other than that.
Take a look at the 2000 - 2003 480 DBs. A friend has one and it is a fantastic...
I ended up going with the Vitrifrigo DP2600 after all. After shimming the floor up about 3/8", it fit perfectly and was an easy installation. In the 420/44 the cabinet vents around the microwave and also into the sides of the boat - it is not sealed at all.
The Admiral loves the space in this...
I had this same problem. Didn't require heavy seas - just a heavily-loaded boat and low to medium cruise speed. I suspect the problem is that the floor is so flat that it goes below the waterline when the stern "squats". The thru-hulls for the drains go below the waterline and then flows...
Alex, could you perhaps have a door seal leak? My Norcold has always made a ton of frost and I'm sure it is from the old seals.
Did you have to change the venting to accommodate the Vitri? Or just the lower shims?
My Norcold DE0061 is about to give up...
Upon searching, I'm leaning towards the Vitrifrigo DP2600 due to decent online reviews, larger interior size, quietness and price (crazy expensive, but not truly ludicrious).
My main concern is that the existing Norcold has vents at the top of it and...
It seems that my sliding door is getting harder to open and close. When I look down at the track, it seems that it is getting bumpy. Is this a typical problem? Any ideas how to fix it?
I made a similar move from a Four Winns 348V (just like a 350 DA) to a 420DB about three years ago. Haven't looked back for even one second...
We boat every weekend - for about 8 years - with a crowd (all having similar aged kids) that have: '05 390DA, '03 480DB, '06 48 DA, '00 540 DA, '03...
I hear that the Sears AGMs - which are made by Odyssey - are of somewhat higher quality than the East Penns. Everything I've heard is that the East Penns are better than you need though. I am just glad to have the acid bubblers out of my boat!!!
Mine were slightly smaller than 31's maybe they were 27's....
Either way, I've replaced all six of them with AGMs. Much better all the way around. Engines start faster, thruster works better and no acid in my bilge.
I changed to the Vetus 6-blade version a couple years ago. It might be slightly quieter and slightly more powerful, but certainly not enough of either to be considered an "upgrade..." I was a little disappointed actually.
OTOH, I changed my thruster batteries from lead acids to Duracell Group...
Diesel oil gets black almost instantaneously. Not sure exactly why, but it does. As for pumping a fresh quart of "flush oil" in after draining 5 gallons, that IMHO is only wasting that fresh qt of oil. What little remains in the reverso lines is only 2-4% of the total of the new 5 gallons that...
I like 1000 RPM - 8.2Kts @ 3.9 GPH. (2.41 MPG - statute)
Sometimes we go 1100 RPM - 8.9 Kts at 5.0 GPH. (2.04 MPG)
At 1200 it really seems to start pushing a lot of water (1.64 MPG) and economy falls rapidly from there on up.
Any ideas where I should start troubleshooting my galley faucet? The flow is very low - barely above a trickle - both on hot and cold settings. The other sinks, showers, washdowns, etc... flow great so it's not the pump or manifold.
