Definitely. (On both no one getting hurt and boats burning fast)
We aren’t racing to get a new one, but we may in a couple of years. We definitely love boating.
It can be accidental, but your insurance is still responsible when the marina wants their money, other damaged boats need to be repaired. This was made very clear to us by our insurance company.
So this was our boat. I've been waiting to post any response until we had a better understanding of what happened. I thought I'd post a quick update and some words of advice on boat insurance.
First off, we have been told the investigators determined the fire started on the Ranger Tug. We have...
Ok, update.
I got through the weekend a few weeks ago, but problem isn't solved.
The issue appears to be a clog. It's white slime.
Here's my question, is there anything I can put in the tank that may help break up this stuff?
We temporarily fixed the issue by removing the strainer...

My mission this afternoon is to check the air vent first. After reading your comments and doing some research it's possible that's block somehow. Fortunately we don't have creatures that like to attach themselves to the boat in DC, but it could be something.
If the vent isn't the...

Thanks for the reply. It is a simple system, unfortunately SR piped the water all over the place and most of the lines are not accessible. I thoroughly checked the output from the pump, no issues. In fact, yesterday I changed out the pump all together.
My water lines are pex and make...
We have a water tank issue we're trying to solve. Here's the issue:
Over the weekend we went to the boat, turned on the fresh water pump, but it just kept running. No water was coming out of the faucets. Tank showed 3/4 full. To test it I even put in more water to get it to full. Still no...
SR made the switch to 8.2's on some late model 2010's.
I have a 2010 350 with the 8.1's and fuel economy is OK, but not great. It's plenty of power for this size boat. SR also put the 8.1's and 8.2's with stern drives in the 450.
(Here's one for sale...
Correct.
In D.C. waters, there's no exception:
"Anyone operating a vessel on District of Columbia waterways is required to have a Boating Safety Certificate."
https://mpdc.dc.gov/page/boating-safety-courses
Yes. If you enter Maryland or Virginia water and MD Fish and Wildlife or a VA police agency stops you, you can be cited for not having a safety certificate. The counties on the Potomac River patrol heavily, especially on weekends. They tend to be the boats you see South of D.C.
In D.C. USCG...
You can argue with them if you want, but in DC waters you're required to have proof of passing a safety course. It's one of the first things they ask for when boarding. I mention captains license in lieu of a safety card. It's a D.C. Requirement, but D.C. Isn't a state and federal agencies have...
Here it is: https://www.uscg.mil/history/faqs/hamiltonletter.pdf
In terms of paperwork on a USCG documented boat they want to see:
Original Documentation Certificate (not a copy)
Proof of safety course or captain's license (I carry mine in my wallet)
State/Local registration (if required)
If...
My boat's in Washington, DC. This is a normal occurrence. The USCG patrols the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers every day. On busy weekend's they board boat after boat.
Whenever they've come aboard my boat they are always super professional and polite. I find if you're polite and friendly...
You are referring to the aft couch, which turns into a bed. (Rear of the cabin)
You can pull the center section that goes across the back of the cabin and it slides out. (Pull the seat)
The cushion that was previously the back of the couch, pulls out and fills in the gap you make when you...
Go here and download a copy of your manual if you don't have it already.
http://www.searay.com/page.aspx/pageid/162289/infoLocation/Ownership%20Transfer%20Form/Owners-Resources.aspx#Resources
The manual should have the specs for the height to the top of the arch. The actual height will depend...
I have (5) Interstate 27M-XHD batteries on my 2010 350. I'm about to replace them for the first time.

Happy to help. By the way, if you plan on going off shore or on longer trips away from land I highly recommend you get an EPIRB and life raft onboard. Neither are required by law, but are smart to carry.
We keep ours on the bow unless we're leaving the D.C. area for a longer trip. In those cases we put it in the car and leave it at the marina. While it stays secure with the straps to the bow rails, it can catch the wind and flop a bit.
Last season we actually removed it before going to the...
Congrats on the boat! Great choice.
First, create a startup checklist, laminate it and keep it at the helm. I also have a return to dock, shut down checklist. I'm sure others will weigh in, but here's what I would recommend for your startup:
1) Turn battery switches to on. (I leave mine...
