Spark Cutout Switch on Shifter Linkage

My throttle and shifter cables are adjusted as the manual specifies, the shifter works fine, but i get a decent 'clunk' noise when shifting into forward or reverse, and I can see that the spark cutout switch is not moving. Nothing bad, no grinding, just a hard shift sound from a lack of spark...

Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitutes?

Re: Photos Added: Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitut Just a post to close out this thread. Replacement of all of the upper gearcase seals and water pump housings has cured the leaking problems. Thanks.

Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitutes?

Re: Photos Added: Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitut I replaced all of the upper gearcase seals, water pump housing and base. I found gear lube inside of the old water pump, so it looks like the base seals were leaking. I also found the lower shaft seals in...

R drive leak - link to my other post

Thanks Dale. That makes perfect sense. I will test at low pressure. Since I do not have any lube in the bellows, is there any good reason to think that a seal is bad in the upper gear case? I must not be leaking up by the ujoint yoke, but could a leak on the lower drive shaft seals allow...

R drive leak - link to my other post

I'm having some significant gear lube leakage from my drive, but it holds pressure. For anyone with knowledge and interested, here's a link to my post under the 'engines' section. Thanks...

Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitutes?

Re: Photos Added: Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitut Update: 9 hours later and the pressure testing gauge still reads exactly 15 psi. I have a new pre-alpha waterpump and base, so I will try repacing that first, hoping that the oil was seeping up around the...

Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitutes?

Re: Photos Added: Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitut More info, and advice needed. I have a pressure test at 15 psi that has held dead-on at 15 psi for 20 minutes. I have been rotating the shaft. Now I am not so sure that there is any reason to open the...

Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitutes?

Thanks BonBini and Bt Doctur. Regarding the rolling torque, I see in the manual where I may not need to do this, depending on the gear set as you have said. I will take a picture of the corrosion and post it. Luckily, the gimble and transom housing don't look too bad, but the outdrive has...

Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitutes?

Dale, thank you very much for your response. I was wondering if I could take a chance on replacing the seals, not changing anything else, and just reassembe the drive exactly as it was without the shimming tools. I have a good home shop and all the right manuals, so I should be able to handle...

Alpha 1 Upper Gearcase Gear Height/Rolling Torque Tools - substitutes?

I have a 1983 R drive that I am going to replace the upper gearcase seals in. I see that I am supposed to use some special tools when measuring the gear heights along with feeler gauges. My question is, does anyone know of an improvised version of these special insertion tools that I can...

what is a good asking price for my boat

Seville's were only 19 feet long, so no matter what the paperwork says, perhaps you have a 21 foot cuddy, like mine? Here's a link to the nada guide price for the seville. You can find any boat here into the 1970s. My experience has been that if your transom is solid and the boat runs well...

    MR drive oil leak question

Re: MR drive oil leak question - found leak I'm beginning to think it is the upper bearing seal leaking oil into the bellows, and then down the shaft. ?

    MR drive oil leak question

Re: MR drive oil leak question - found leak I found the leak. It is through the intermediate shift shaft bushing, in the base of the upper drive shaft housing. Can I remove the intermediate shift shaft and replace the bushing without disassembling the upper drive shaft housing? It is...

    Affordable GPS w/ larger display....suggestions

I was looking at the 531s and 541s. I am sure you'll be happy with it. I have no problem navigating Galveston Bay with the S/Map in my other boat, so I decided to go with a second unit. I am waiting for those portable units like the Garmin GPSMAP 640 to come down in price. I suspect...

    MR drive oil leak question

I've ordered a pressure testing gauge and a complete new water pump with all seals. Since I haven't been into the water pump yet, seems like a smart first move. Then I'll pressure test. I'll update when the work is done in a week.
