Thanks for the inputs.
I'll look into the IAC valve.
The engine will start then die (sputters) in a few seconds. It starts in gear for some reason even though it's in neutral, and I can set it to dock mode and/or throttle only mode and it still starts in forward gear. The port engine runs...
Hello,
Haven't been on in awhile due to some personal issues. Went out a couple weeks ago and on the return the stbd engine would not start. After returning to the dock I noticed it would start for a couple seconds then sputter and die, but it was in gear, would not start after that. This is...

You were right!!! I finally got to the boat today and removed a couple plugs from the port engine, they looked pretty bad. I looked at a stbd engine plug and it looked much better. Installed new plugs in the port engine and the "roughness" is gone and so is the grinding sound when in gear...
I hope to be able to get to the boat this weekend (other issues have kept me busy) and follow the advise given, thanks guys!! BTW I did make contact with my insurance (BoatUS), and they were extremely helpful as well.
Cheers,
Mike
Thanks for the notes. I did run into a sand bar last year that had moved right on my way point through Hurricane Pass here is Clearwater. Both engines and generator sucked up sand. I dropped anchor and cleaned the strainers out but the port engine was overheating so I returned to dock on one...
One V drive is making a nasty grinding sound in both forward and reverse idle (and higher rpm) on our 2008 38DA. This is something I will probably not want to tackle myself. Can the V drive transmission be pulled without having the boat hauled?
Thanks,
Mike
Contacted dealer and they don't break hinge down into sub parts, say I need a whole new hinge which retails for $528.50!!! So it looks like I will be removed the bottom bolt and taking the door off. I sure hope it's just the bolt and I can find a replacement. Really strange looking bolt about...
Does anyone know what type of bolt SeaRay uses for the hinge on the stern door? This is on a 2008 38DA, the door is fiberglass with a SeaRay S in the center.
The hinge bolt on the bottom hinge appears to have a Allen head set screw in the middle along the bolt center axis at the bolt head. I...
Mark,
Don't have a picture but it's easy to spot the blue plug. It sits on the bottom of the cool fuel module and faces aft on our boat (V Drives). Its there for draining the raw water when winterizing, we are in Florida and don't need to winterize...so the plugs haven't bee removed since the...
Thanks guys!!! Good timing!! The plugs both broke off leaving nothing to hold on too, and both began leaking. Guess I'll get a 1/2"-13 thread tap and try and clean the threads out.
OK, I finally got this fixed with the help of local mechanic Justin Brock at DNA Marine Repair. We replaced the thermostat and acid cleaned the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger was partially clogged due to scale build up with only 230 hours use. If you ever need to replace the thermostat...
We have the Merc 8.1L and the cool fuel module raw water plug snapped off. This is the blue plastic plug used for draining water when winterizing. I checked the other engine and the plug was stuck and snapped off too. It seems the plug with o-ring was placed on the cool rule module before the...
Hello,
Anyone have an exploded diagram of the Kohler 7.3ECD that specifically shows the cooling system and thermostat location they could post?
I have a slow overheating problem and have changed the impeller, back flushed the heat exchanger, purged any trapped air pockets in the coolant...
I used an IR sensor today and the heat exchanger center was about 180~190F, the top of the manifold the heat exchanger attaches to was ~180F. Exit water temp was ~95~100F. The generator temp sensor indicated 213F under load of 120VAC @ 25 amps, dropped back to 210F with load removed.
We have a Kohler 7.3ECD Low Co generator that is running hot around 210 degrees. Long story short is, I have replaced the impeller (the replaced one was fine, no vanes missing), flushed the heat exchanger backwards with hose (small amount of sand was in catch bucket), bleed the coolant for air...
We ran aground awhile back and I have been slowly working my way through things and finally got around to the Kohler 7.3EC low CO generator. When we ran around the generator stopped due to sand intake I believe. Later I cleaned the strainer and restarted the generator, it ran fine and water flow...
Got the pump out (wasn't too bad) and disassembled it. The impeller looked fine and the pump housing looked OK with no signs of scoring, the end plate that covers the top of the impeller has some scoring though. Put the pump back in (much more of a pain!!) and ran the engine yesterday, the water...
