fresh water flush of my 8.1's - best practices

Since I've had the boat, I've used the set up that came with the boat and followed the instructions for the FW flush (I use saltaway) - connect the flush valve to receiver on engine, shut the seacock, open flush valve, start engine. During the few seconds after valve opens and before engine...

2008 340 8.1 engine quit strangely and wont restart

I went out for a short run to fuel up at my usual fuel dock (non-ethanol fuel) and after returning to dock, I shut off engines and port side starter ran as if engine had quit, although the smart craft display hadn't given me the warning siren of a quit engine. Previously and during 6 mile run to...

easy cheap comfy V berth upgrade

Correct - I arranged memory foam bath mats UNDER the existing cushions (nonslip side down) and they cover most all the areas your body touches. Looking at the bed, you would never know they were there and it allows me easy access to the stowage lockers underneath. Again, it works so well for us...

easy cheap comfy V berth upgrade

I've meant to post this for a while and finally got around to it. Earlier this year, I was looking into ways to make my forward V berth more comfy. The foam cushion on hard substrate made for sore hips and shoulders. Various options seemed costly and would inhibit access to storage lockers...

    340 V Drive clunking

While docking in my slip recently, the starboard V Drive starting a rythmic clunking when engaged either forward or reverse - clunking sped up when rpms increased. It sounds somewhat like an outdrive that's not quite engaging so I'm guessing same thing - transmission not engaging for some...

Water Pressure Sensor Alarm - what is repair?

No - engine appears to run normally. Sensor alarm is also intermittent. Initially, it came on after the boat was at rest for a while after a run. Next day, started the boat - no alarm until about 20 minutes of operation. Then, alarm came and went intermittently.

Water Pressure Sensor Alarm - what is repair?

So by front you mean forward side of the engine looking down at the heat exchangers for the V Drives - correct? And with V Drives, the water pump is on the aft side of the engine?

Water Pressure Sensor Alarm - what is repair?

I'm getting an intermittent alarm for the starboard engine on the smartcraft display: "water pressure sensor not working properly". I've notified my mech and he's chasing it down with Mercury Marine but does anyone have input on what and how long it takes to correct? I'm leaving on a big trip...

    2008 340 Engine Hatch won't open again - where's the solenoid?

The switch is a single sealed unit that feeds all switches on the port side dash pod except start stop engines. My mech is tracking it down with sea ray. Doesn't look like a generic switch. Anyone done this on their boat? Solenoid or relay seems to work fine so it must be the switch

    2008 340 Engine Hatch won't open again - where's the solenoid?

Great suggestion - Thanks. I'll probably just change out the switch in any case. Is this a part Sea Ray needs to provide or just a generic switch my Mech can procure?

    2008 340 Engine Hatch won't open again - where's the solenoid?

I had this problem a while back but it self corrected. Motor sounds and works fine right up until open hatch function stops working. Close hatch function still works fine so I suspect it is a failing solenoid activated by the magnet in the transom door when door is locked in full open position...

    340 engine hatch not working

OK - went back to the boat and checked everything I could think of, carefully latched transom door in open position, and then tried a few more times - no luck. On the off change it was related to transom door solenoid, I unlatched the door from the open position and set my shoe against the door...
