The alarm panel on my 1990 420 Express Cruiser (the boat shaped panel at the helm with idiot lights and buzzers) is indicating "high water temp" on my starboard engine above 2,400 RPM's. The gauges show normal and IR readings correspond with the gauges. The sensor for the gauges (Cat 3208TA's)...
Interesting timing on this thread! Over the winter I had my turbos replaced (Cat 3208TA's) and the starboard water temp sensor lights up at 2,400 RPM or higher. The gauges read normal and IR readings support the gauge readings. So I searched this forum looking for ideas on where to look to see...
Thanks for the reply! I have reusable filters which I cleaned along with the aftercooler maintenance. Both engines are behaving exactly the same so I wouldn’t think linkage would be the issue. My next test is to see what I get for RPM’s in neutral.
The exhaust smoke hasn’t changed. I would get...
1990 3208/375 - new (Cat Reman) turbos over the winter. Previous to the replacement, I showed 7PSI of boost at 2,400 RPM cruise speed (18kts) and topped out at 2,850 RPM. Immediately after the replacement I can only get 2,200 RPM at 7PSI and I lost over 400RPM of top end. I've read that I should...
I just had the turbos replaced on my 1990 Caterpillar 3208 TA’s Now I’m getting a high water temperature alarm on the starboard motor. All gauges read normal and I shot the engines with an infrared thermometer and nothing seems to be out of spec. Any ideas as to what could be causing the false...
I'm facing the exact same issue. I suspected (hoped) it could be the rubrail until I saw the other posts, although I wonder if my 1990 420 Express has the same "shoebox lid" joint under the rubrail. I had the marina have a look at rebedding the stanchions but there are so many inaccessible bolts...
A word about Wolverine or other stick-on engine heaters: a friend with 3208 Cat's like mine had his oil pans rot out because of the Wolverines and cost him almost $10k to replace. It may be a Cat only problem as they use stamped steel in the pans. Mine are coming off this winter and a bilge...
I keep getting corrosion which looks like what you see on a poorly maintained battery terminal appearing on my port side bonding block. The starboard side doesn't have the same problem. Anyone else dealt with this or know what causes it?
Thanks for the input - my evacuater is a lot like the ones you use - it comes down to being able to get the hose down far enough to remove as much as the oil as possible. Mine has a 1/4 inch and an 1/8 inch hose and I use the small one to try to get down there but it seems to be blocked. Maybe...
Nice Frank! I'm jealous of the amount of room you have between the drive and the bulkhead. I had the chance when the drive was out because of a transmission replacement.
I have a maintenance question on draining my ZF Vdrives. I can't get my hand all the way down to the drain plug (and it's too close to the bulkhead) so I sucked the oil out from the dipstick/fill hole. However I only got about a liter and a half out and the manual says capacity is 7 liters. Any...

Turns out not to be a big deal. Once equipped with the part number from the old breaker the Flounder Pounder site was very helpful along with speaking to them. They had an exact replacement for the breakers.
Yes that's the panel I was referring to. I was hoping (unrealistically, I know) that someone might know someone that can find the original style breaker. Partly for how it looks but also because the way it clips into the panel won't work with a generic breaker.
I'll keep my fingers crossed...
Need help replacing main breaker in load panel
I have a 1990 420 Sundancer and need help finding the 30A single pole main breaker. I'm getting some noises in the left leg breaker and want to replace it before bad stuff happens. It has a rocker switch and clips into the load panel so I don't...
