Folks, I have a 2017 280SLX. At the top of the windshield, a couple of the canvas grommets have come loose. Sea Ray sold me replacements which are plastic - same as OEM for this windshield location - others are metal grommets in other parts of the boat. I tried a two part epoxy from Home Depot...
I know they are assembled by Merc but cast iron block, crank, rods, bearings, valve train those are likely made by GM and shipped to Merc who then attaches all the peripheral items. Internal combustion engines are extremely expensive to make unless you make millions every year which GM and Ford...
Out of curiosity, does Mercruiser make their own blocks for their engines or are they still using GM short block and adapting them for marine use such as for engines like the 6.2L stern drive??
Ok not sure if I replied to this thread after I ran the boat again. But I ran it in 90 degree plus weather for 3 hours of and no leaks. Will change gear lube and pull outdrive for a annual maintenance. I think removing some oil and tightening cap may have solved this one.
Well I got it new in May of 2017. Outdrive removed last year in July as part of annual maintenance so gear lube replaced at that time. It seems to me that gear lube contamination takes a few years of neglect. Replacing gear lube each should remove contamination. That said she does in salt water...
Is gunk at the bottom of reservoir likely on a boat with 109 hours? I had drive removed and serviced last year ad part of annual work, so just wondering.
I will try to tighten the cap this weekend. This may be it because I was just doing finger tight. Am I correct to assume that if I have a leak in an underwater seal that sooner or later I will have no gear lube in reservoir but just water? It's hard to see how water can get in but oil does not...
Folks, my B3 outdrive is losing gear lube from the engine reservoir tank cap. Last couple times out the reservoir leaked through cap onto bilge. Any thoughts on why would be appreciated. Reservoir cap is the small one on left in this picture with the red pin. Thank you!!
I am trying to connect a std 12v automotive USB charger to my Sea Ray 280 SLX dashboard port charger but cell phone not charging even though charger light is on. Is there a special marine charger?
Need advice on best approach to repair gel coat. Boat rubbed wooden dock in rough weather. Blue gel coat comes off on rag when wiped with boat cleaner. Boat is new (yes, quite sad!) less than 6 months old. Any thoughts on best way to repair? What could be causing gel coat to keep coming...
I need a recommendation for certified Mercruiser (350 Bravo III outdrive) mechanic on Hilton Head Island. Marina based preferred, boat in water. New boat under warranty. Engine light came on with 25 hours on engine, not sure why, fluid levels look good. thanks
Well, now I am really stumped. I ran the boat out yesterday and the speedometer is working well at all speeds including running 35 MPH through choppy waters in Calibogue Sound. I don't have dial gauges, I have a Raymarine Navigation touchscreen. Here is a video taken by diver a couple of...
The speedometer tube on my 280 SLX 2017 with a Bravo III outdrive became disconnected at outdrive. Does reconnecting it require the outdrive to pulled from the boat or is it a simple reconnection/thread type situation? Thank you!!
