Make sure the through hull valve is open so the generator can pull water through to cool. There is also a sensor that detects water flow through the generator that can get corroded and stay in a closed position so the generator doesn’t know water is flowing. You can replace that very cheaply.

I’m going to do this as well because I think my sump needs some TLC. The float switch sticks, but the bulge is collecting water even with the water tank empty and not running facet or shower.
