    5.7l Mercruiser small oil leak

I have a minor oil leak on my 5.7l 260 Merc on an '87 230 WE. There seems to be oil on the oil filter housing, but not on the filter itself, so it's not the filter seal. This is not a remote oil filter housing, it's near the back of the engine port side. Is this a known area where leaks...

    Lifespan of a Alpha 1 (gen 1)?

Wondering how long my Alpha 1 gen 1 drive will last with my 5.7L 260 Merc on my '87 230 Weekender? Last time it went out, I replaced it with a Jasper remanufactured sterndrive. I chose Jasper because it had the best warranty, 2 yrs. It's been fine for at least 14 yrs. Some of those years saw...

    Manifold torque specs

I did my first manifold and riser replacement on my 5.7 Merc 260 and followed the torque specs precisely, bought a torque wrench specifically for the job. Best oil and filter for '87 Mercruiser 5.7L GM?

Have been running a 5.7 Merc in an '87 230WE on Mobile 1 15w 50 for 3 decades. Was thinking about changing over to Amsoil 25W 40 Marine. Any recommendations? (I've heard Amsoil is the best and i use it in my tow vehicle). Maybe I shouldn't change the type oil that I've been using for so long?

    Walkaround

I really don't like the trend in smaller SeaRay cruisers after 1999 to eliminate the walk around for a few inches of more cabin space. Even the smallest Sundancers and Weekenders from the 80s to about '98 had a small walk around protected by the bow rail. I never liked this walk-through...

    Manifold advice

My boat is freshwater only, relatively low hours for an '87, and the manifold is a bit rusted and has been leaking slightly for a few years. Engine has been well maintained and running great. It seems to be cooling ok, though one side seems a bit hotter than the other. I've been afraid to try...
