Was out enjoying the lake, cruising at 3000 RPM, smooth as glass, when the motor just stopped. No hesitation, just quit. Motor will crank, and act like it wants to catch, but won't stay running. If I run the throttle up a few times, and try and start, it will rev high for a second, and then die...
Fuel pump died in my Sea Ray, and the oil is milky /fuel fouled because the diaphragm blew. I was thinking I would drain the oil, and put on a new filter and oil run it , drain it, and put on another fuel filter and fresh oil. Is there a better way? Thoughts?
Thanks!
Bill
Hi all,
Due to boatloads of help from y'all, old girl is on the water. Actually left the dock, and returned to it under her own power!
Small miracles.
Took it easy most of the trip around the lake, but a few times when I was a bit froggy and advanced the throttle past 3000 rpm, she would...
Ok, so I rebuilt the water pump, lower assembly got a new (used) upper, new shift cable, shift cable bellows, driveshaft bellow, 2 new exhaust elbows, and exhaust bellows. Cleaned the spark arrestor and installed a new fuel filter.
Now she won't start, but cranks fine. I looked down the throat...
Replacing the shift cable on my 1980 Sundancer. I have the outdrive off and I am passing the cable through the transom. It is nearly impossible to reach the cable at the back of the motor, and then I have to manipulate it to port in order to get past the mounts. Is there an easier way to do...
Rebuilt my lower assembly water pump (rebuilt according to the exploded IPB view on Sierra) but it's pretty tight now. I can barely turn the shaft to get the prop to turn, but it does. Is that right? Is this just a function of the brand new impeller being super stiff??
Any input much...
Got the lower removed on my outdrive. Oh...my...
Good news is that the spline shaft moves freely, and I can shift the lower into gear by hand! So I guess that means it's in the transom shift cable? Removing the upper now.
Last pic is the "naughty bits" (as my British friend would say) that fell...
Problem #2: Shifter is really tight, can go into gear. When I removed the control shifter cable per the T/S instructions, it moved freely. Transom cable, on the other hand is tight as a drum and won't budge. Any ideas what the problem could be?
Just took her out this weekend. Ran sweet for 5 minutes, then a busted water fitting, and couldn't get her in gear. Got towed back to the dock, but still was a great day! Looking forward to many days and nights on old girl!
Hi all,
First outing on my new (1981) Sundancer and everything was beautiful. Trailers nice, easy to put in the water, and dock. After about 5 minutes running 3/4 throttle she starts to chug and smoke a bit. Shut 'er down, and opened the engine bay, and see the port side flex water fitting (my...
