Do any of you have a galvanic isolator on your boat? If so, where is it located? I'm going to install one soon, and would like to get some ideas on a good location that is close to the power cord inlet, but doesn't get in the way of accessing other things. Offhand, it looks like on the base...

Not sure how to access the shaft log from the outside. The seals were probably originals (Tides Marine). When we cut & removed the lip seal, with water filling the sump below the engine, the spare would not go in easily. We eventually got it in place, but the leak was worse than before. Not...

We installed SeaDek flooring a while back and I still have the Corinthian Marine flooring from the swim platform and walk-through (8 pieces). I also saved all of the screw-in snaps. Let me know if you would be interested in them.

That's great news! Hopefully you will get several more years out of those seals. We had an interesting experience last spring with a leaking seal and attempt to install the spare while in place. It failed and required a quick haul-out! The seals were very old anyway, so I had both replaced...

Jack -- Thanks for sharing your fuel clean-up process and pics. I'm sure we are all wondering what we have in our tanks! All of our Racor bowls (including the generator) were filled with brown sludge when we purchased the boat in July 2020. After draining & cleaning the bowls, replacing the...

This is really good information. I did some more research and have the same reservations. I’m at the boat now. There must have been an air lock in the sump pump because it is miraculously working again … for now!

I am going analyze this quite a bit before taking this on. I agree with Jack about size, and would probably go with the 4 gallon model. This would make it easier to add a second pump if needed. On my next trip to the boat I plan to attempt removing the pump outlet hose to determine if there...

It appears that my sump pump may have failed. As you guys are aware, it is extremely difficult to work in the sump area. I'm struggling to remove the pump hose to begin diagnosing the problem. Before I start ripping things apart, I have been researching the Whale sump system. Have any of you...

Our flybridge amp blew a couple of years ago, so we have been getting by with a pair of Megaboom 3 speakers. I can strap them on anywhere and save the house battery while anchored out. They pair with each other and sound great! I use them on the dinghy and golf cart, too.

Hey Kevin, You can find a lot of information on this topic on the Marine Sanitation Supply website (marinesan.com), where I pulled this diagram. I took off the inlet hose from the head (red arrow) and tested the pressure at the elbow (#17). In one instance, the pressure kept going higher with...

I have spent a lot of time researching, diagnosing, and fixing waste system issues. Surprising, because I can’t bear to clean a toilet at home! Here are a few things I have discovered & fixed, and suggestions: - Pour and flush warm soapy water through the system before opening anything up. It...

Hey Bill, I also have CAT 3126 420hp engines. We were pitched at 27” when we purchased the boat in July 2020, and only able to hit 2400 rpm @ WOT. Last year Cool Breeze Marine in Lake Ozark, MO (the best prop guy I have ever met!) repitched them to 23” and we immediately hit the proper spec...

I’m glad you introduced this topic. I’m still trying to figure things out. We are fully winterized, but bring space heaters and stay on the boat about once a month during the winter (we’re here now). When I de-energize the solenoid in the salon panel, my port / house battery appears to...

Hey Brian, I have a 2002. I just crawled back and took some pictures since it’s too tight for me to see the number. It looks like BA150-7ATM.

One our success stories this summer involved the use of a dehumidifier. I run a hose to the guest berth drain, and keep it set at 60%. I leave the "Starboard Systems" breaker switch on when we are away to keep it going. The results have been amazing. No mold anywhere, no musty boat smell...

We recently replaced the Norcold fridge with a Vitrifrigo DP2600IBD3-F-1. This is a DC model, so we included a Vitrifrigo 7806-0001 power supply to make it AC/DC. It's amazing how it fits exactly into the existing space. We used black 1" auto decorative trim around the edges to cover the...

I wonder if anyone has ever searched CSR on the topic of "decorative boat pillows"! For the record, the 20+ pillows my wife has placed everywhere look spectacular, but from a practical standpoint, I absolutely hate them! They are always in the way. We purchased 3" foam pads for both berths...

We do about 100 hours per year, so change oil & filters every fall (just completed). Very light use of the Westerbeke, so we service it every 2 years. Since we’re in fresh water, haven’t had to replace engine zincs yet. I’ll check them again in the Spring.

We had a ceramic coat applied one year ago for a similar price. They did a very good job, taking out several imperfections in the hull. We wash with water only, and chamois dry to remove water spots. One year later and the boat finish still looks almost new. We are very pleased with the results.
