I bought a Sea Ray 300 Weekender that I need to motor on Lake Erie from North East Marina, PA to Port Clinton, OH. Being new to motor boats, having been a sailor all my life, I have some questions about the trip/boat and one other.
To be the most fuel efficient, but getting where I need to go...
Bonnie Dahl's book "Superior Way" is essential for cruising Lake Superior. One thing to remember is the lack of marinas and fuel on the Canadian side. Can be VERY wild up there!

I bought a 1988 300 Weekender in Erie, PA (North East, PA) and I plan to motor it (not going alone) on the Lake to Port Clinton in May. I have been a life long sailboat guy, I'm now almost 69, and this will be my first ever motor boat. What I'm trying to figure out is how far I should plan on...
Docking a twin screw powerboat (especially an express cruiser style that does not have the windage of a flybridge) is tremendously easier than a 31' sailboat (which is what we had, a '71 Westerly and then '01 Catalina). Get one with a bow thruster and it will be even easier, but not necessary...
The transoms and stringers have just been professionally rebuilt. What should I do to keep them in good shape? The boat comes with the full camper type cockpit enclosure.
We found a Sea Ray. It is a 1988, 300 Weakeneder. It is in nice shape. I'm going to go and do a thorough inspection on Friday. It has been well maintained by the previous owner. I'll take photos on Friday. The final sale will be contingent on sea trial.
