    New Sea Ray owner

I'm glad to read that lake Mead is recovering and I hope that continues in the right direction. So many people out West depend on that water supply, not to mention the recreational benefits. I checked out some satellite shots of the lake over the years and it is down quite a bit. My other...

I'm curious how lake mead is doing actually. Last I heard it was way low on water, has it recovered this winter with the snows out there?

    1987 Sea Ray 268

I have the same head set up in my boat. Mine is the original and still works fine. The larger hose is the clean-out hose. This hose should connect to a deck plate like the fuel deck plate. That's where the marina connects the waste sucker pump-out hose. The head end (bottom) of that hose...

    Thinking of adding outboard

I was curious and read this thread. It sounds like someone stepped into quicksand here. I have to agree with bobeast and pirate lady on this one. I think bobeast is being conservative with the engine replacement costs but regardless a huge expense especially if you're not doing the work...

    POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK

I'm going to take a closer look at it tomorrow. I'm planning on doing some "spring commissioning" on the boat tomorrow, the weather forecast has no cold temps predicted for the next 10 days, which puts us into the warmer weather here so I'm safe to flush the water system and run the engine to...

    1983 Amberjack

I have been working on the counter top and configuring it for the new cooktop. The new cooktop is a bit smaller, so I cut a piece of L shaped plywood to attach as a support for the small oak boards that I cut to fit the gap. I painted them to match the countertop and added an L bracket for...

    POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK

As far as the steering goes, I'll have to deal with it for now. Luckily my boating / launching / docking situation is very easy with very little maneuvering needed. The ramp I use at Mile Creek on Lake Keowee is very rural and quiet most of the time and the triple ramp has a very easy and...

    POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK

Yes, Lazy Daze, the engine area is very easy to work in. I can easily kneel on either side of the engine and work on it. I've had no problems relating to space doing any of the work I've done. Even hauling the engine to replace the starter was relatively easy (Although I wouldn't want to do...

    POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK

I finally found the leak. It is leaking from the steering rack. I'm definitely NOT getting into replacing that right now, I have too many other projects going on at this time. I'll take the belt off and run with no power steering for now and next winter I'll tackle the rack.

    1983 Amberjack

I was able to remove the old cooktop from the galley, it was very easy. I appreciate the warning and I do understand that propane is more dangerous than alcohol. I have found a site that sells the cooktops for marine use and properly installed, used and ventilated have been utilized on boats...

    1983 Amberjack

My 255AJ does not have A/C power, the "fridge" is just an ice box (fancy name for a built in cooler) However, I will say, it works very well, I put bag of ice in it early on a Sat morning and stay out on the boat and come back late Sunday afternoon and there is still plenty of ice and...

    1983 Amberjack

Yes, Tyler, The 255s could be ordered with the "weekender package" which basically set the cabin up like a 260 weekender. I have an alcohol stove (which I'm going to replace with a propane one) a sink and an ice box (which still works great). It has a good amount of counter space there as...

    1983 Amberjack

Oh, I know what I've got, believe me,.....a BIG FAT BOAT with too small of an engine, LOL. Luckily, I'm not in a race on the lake, mostly I just putt around, do some fishing and enjoy the scenery and peace and quiet. I would never have bought this boat with this engine for the ocean. Needless...

    1983 Amberjack

With the 260 HP engine my boat struggles a bit to get up on plane and I need to be at 4000RPM to get the boat up on plane quickly. Then I back down to 3700RPM and she stays on a nice plane. It will stay on plane as low as 3400 but if I hit any wave action it will fall out so I usually stay at...

    1983 Amberjack

Welcome to CSR, I'm fairly new here as well. That's a really nice looking 255AJ. I've received some great help from people here on restoration questions and my 255 Amberjack is coming along very nicely. Mine was basically a wreck when I got it, it had been abandoned at a marina in MN. But I got...

    POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK

Thank you all for letting me know what that is and that it is needed. I will look into it next weekend to determine if I can repair it so it won't leak anymore. If not I will try to get the part to replace. Question, ...IF I take the belt off and run with no pwr steering, is that possible ...

    POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK

Happy New Year to all! I've been picking away when I can working on the Amberjack so it won't all catch up with me in March. I still have not been able to resolve the trim issue but that's another thread and thank you to everyone who has given advise on it. I have another issue that I'm hoping...

    Tips on trailering

I agree with STEE6043 with regard to boat ramps being the walmart of boating but it also can be considered free entertainment of a sort, lol. The boat ramp I use now is fairly new triple with nice docks in a very rural area. If you get there before 8 it's very quiet and easy to launch. Years...

TILT/TRIM NOT GOING ALL THE WAY DOWN

Thank you for the ideas on a solution. I will try bleeding the system by raising and lowering the drive several times. Honestly I've only moved it up and down maybe 4 or 5 times in a row to bleed so maybe I need to do this more. I've owned other boats but never a stern drive so still learning...

TILT/TRIM NOT GOING ALL THE WAY DOWN

Okay, I'm back with another "small" problem with my 255 AJ Everyone here has been very helpful in the past and helped me with resto questions, boat is coming along nicely, thanks to everyone. July fourth weekend the starter was acting up, I had to keep hitting it with a rubber mallet to get it...
