Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

So maybe this is a dumb question, but don't most boats have that hole in the floor, where you can pull up a wooden grate? Circled in red. If so, how would water even make its way down to the bilge pump?

Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

Thanks, we are slowly getting there! We could have bought a larger boat, but this seems like a good starter. Plus, when you have an emergency fund, bad things don't seem to happen as often... haha So we have $2k saved up in case we need another 115hp motor, worse case scenario. But probably...

Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

I feel like I remember that now. My 14' fishing boat trailer, doesn't have a serial number, so they had to assign it one, that I still need to inscribe...

Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

Good to know on the trailer, thank you! When I looked online, they were going pretty cheap. But they were a bit older... For the Silverline, they have a title for that, but not the trailer... Which, I've had to get a title for a trailer i've bought before, not a big deal. Regarding fixing up...

Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

I thought about that, but I want to keep the trailer on my current boat.... We offered $5k and they accepted. It started at $7k 22 weeks ago, then recently came down to $5,700. Plus it included all of the invoices. I thought about that, and that maybe we should wait, so I don't have to store it...

Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

That is true, and another thing that I thought of... My grandparents gave it to me, but there is no emotional connection. I wanted to get it going and take them for a ride when they come up here. But being able to still use the trailer, and sell t he motor, hopefully not take the boat to the...

Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

I just noticed that you are in West Michigan as well. I grew up in Rockford, but recently moved right next to Lincoln lake, not on it. Boston Whaler's are nice! We finally paid off all student loans, debt, etc, besides our home we just built. So this is our first "big" cash purchase and i've...

Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

I attached a picture of the Sea Ray Seville from before I towed it home from Florida. And I also attached the pictures that were on the FB marketplace listing. Before the water ices over, i'm going to swap the trailers, I bought new tires and it is a good trailer!!

Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

Thank you all for the replies! My wife and I went to look at it last night, and they accepted $5k. I was pretty nervous before we looked at it, but it looks to be a pretty solid boat! Just needs some TLC... Missing some cup holders, new radio cover, etc. The flooring only looked like wood planks...

Restore or scrap and buy a better one?

My grandparents gave me a 1987 Sea Ray Seville 16'. Grandpa had skin cancer and the boat sat for two years. After one year, the UV rays ripped the cover and it go water inside. It was on a trailer in their yard, drain plug was out. I could see that the floor was once patched and that patch was...

1987 Sea Ray Seville 18' Restoration

So quick question/update..... I started pulling up the floor. The poorly done patch job that someone had done is bad. The boat has been in my garage for over a year, and there is still wetness in the wood that I was pulling up, between the carpet/fiberglass and the foam under the wood. And it...

Cheaper Hydraulic Steering fluid - to find leak?

thanks, i'll message you right now. I think I know where the leak is, but I don't actually see an evidence of hydraulic fluid dripping in the area... It did sit for two years, so maybe the rain cleaned it? But this would be helpful, as it is possible that the leak is not in a line....

Cheaper Hydraulic Steering fluid - to find leak?

Agreed, I will be replacing the lines, but that costs $200. I'd like to see how the engine runs, etc before I commit to restoring it... But that is my fear, mixing fluids and having issues long term...

good to know, thank you! I think a quart of that goes for $12!

Cheaper Hydraulic Steering fluid - to find leak?

Does anyone know of a cheaper hydraulic fluid that I can use to test where the leak is, without spending $30 for a quart of "SeaStar Solutions HA5430H SeaStar/BayStar Hydraulic Steering Fluid, 1 Quart"? I'm guessing the lines will need to be replaced, but my hope is that it is a slow leak, and I...

1987 Sea Ray Seville 18' Restoration

I didn't think about a moisture meter! I bought one when we redid out last home, but i never opened it; just replaced everything. One the floor in the back-middle, there is a shape like 0, but with more squared but still rounded corners. I assume the gas tank is under that? I should probably...

1987 Sea Ray Seville 18' Restoration

haha I haven't heard of that one before. In all honestly, I don't see them being that expensive, unless you get the upgrade bug and want to pour a lot of money into making it a rock crawler, that also trail rides, and is the fastest vehicle at the sand dunes..... But ours in a 1995, so it does...

1987 Sea Ray Seville 18' Restoration

How exactly do I check the transom? From the outside, and what I can see from the inside, it looks fine. Driving home with the motor lifted up, without it propped up with the metal post with the small Y at the end, From Florida to Michigan, it still seems fine. I grabbed where the prop is, and...

1987 Sea Ray Seville 18' Restoration

I am finally about to start restoration of the boat we drove home from Florida, back up to Michigan. It was actually originally a Michigan boat, I believe. Anyway, it has been in my garage all winter. I've been nervous to cut up the floor, as I wasn't sure where to start.... After watching many...
