What is the normal water pressure on a 8.1S Horizon?
I see zero pressure at idle. 2psi at 1500RPM and 4-5 at 3300 RPM.
Do I need to change the rubber impeller in the pump?
The Smartcraft alarm has started ringing occasionally and puts the engine into Guardian mode.
Thanks for any insight you...
I see two issues: Water leaking and carbon monoxide. Over here we are running in the ocean - sometimes far from home. We try to avoid problems. I would take the boat out of the water and get it fixed now. Why risk a major event to save $300 to haul out the boat?
Maybe it is better to be safe...
I have a 340DA here in Freeport. I run back and forth to both Miami and Fort Lauderdale a few time per year. The 330 should handle about the same. I don't like to go out with anything over 20Kts or 4 foot waves. The boat can handle it but the passengers get nervous and sick. Have crossed the...
It's super easy. Shouldn't take you more than an hour to do a nice clean job. Get yourself a metal coathanger and use it to pull the cable through all the corners. I've done it twice now.
Enjoy your new GPS.
Hi,
You might want to reconsider where you will position the intakes. I'm far from an ace mechanic but I think it is best to flush with the engines hot and running. Something to do with the thermostat being open and allowing the flushing water to get all the way through the heat exchanger and...
Hi,
I just replaced my manifolds with cast iron on both engines. (ouch!) Also had to rework the heads on the port side due to water ingestion.
One thing i have done is modified the seawater intakes to allow me to flush with fresh water with a garden hose after each trip. I have also started...
Down in the bilge between the engines, I am getting surface cracks and flaking-off of the gelcoat. This is in an area that usually has 1-2 inches of water.
Do I need to get this repaired or is it regular wear and tear?
Has anybody else had the same issue?
Being proactive. Down here, there have been a lot of boat thefts. I personally know of three just with local friends. My insurance just doubled from last year due to the problems. Apparently over 50 boats were stolen in the Bahamas over the last 12 months. They usually get stolen and then used...
And I thought I was the only boater with a boat that resembled a brothel in Paris!
All I can say is "fight the battles you can win and ignore the others, lif is too short".
I do like the idea of the bikini pillow fight though.
Just so you have "all" the details on your 8.1s engines.....
They have both a closed cooling system for the block and head just like a car BUT they also have sea water cooling on the exhaust manifolds, heat exchanger and Kool Fuel system.
I know for sure - just spent $7,000 changing out all...
I have the same engines. Its odd that they both would have the same below normal readings. One of my engines dropped like that a few months ago. It was an overused oil filter causing the problem. I would change yours asap if you
haven't already. When was the last time you changed your oil...
Hi,
My '05 340DA with 8.1s burns 35 gals per hour at 3400rpm for about 22Kts.
I would esitate getting either of those boats with gas engines. You would really be pushing the envelope. I would bet you would be burning over 40 gals / hour on the big one.
On a recent trip of 86 nautical miles, on very calm water, no wind, 4 people on board, she burned 143 gallons of gas. That works out to almost 1.7 gallons per mile! We ran at 3250 RPM that gave us 19.5 Knots. 8.1S Horizons.
Hull recently painted, Propspeed on the shafts and props, new spark...
Here is the thread that explains exactly what you need to do.

I'm doing it on my 340DA next Saturday. Just don't have the parts yet.
