I'm changing all the bellows and hoses on my Alpha 1 Gen 2s.
Having cut the old remote oil hoses between the transom and bell housing I threw them in the skip, of course...
Today the replacement hose has arrived ....but this has to be cut to length! Anyone happen to know the exact length...
Wow - I've not been on CSR for a while but just saw this thread has been viewed 21,000+ times!
Anyway... I think my steering cable is on its way to the recycling skip. The parts manual says the cable is 16.5 ft - but from my initial look it seems Teleflex only do 16ft or 17ft "The Rack" cables...
I've just had a call from the prop repair shop... apparently my props are only good for the skip, showing really bad stress cracks when they cleaned them up.
These were old-ish 4 blade Offshore props, 21" pitch, that I picked up second hand - they were a bit dirty when I bought them so didn't...
...or on mine the sliders on the door came loose.. on a couple of screws in each one.
It was extremely hard to bolt them back on again without removing the door... which as far as I could tell meant removing the helm too.. Oh joy.
Having bolted the one slider back to the door, mine is...
How many coolers have you got on your engine? Is the power steering fluid going down at all? My PS oil cooler went but the leak was -very- slow and oil was dripping into the area at the back of the engine rather than into the water... When I replaced it you couldn't see any signs of a hole...
In my ever-lasting quest to find my intermittent engine alarms I decided to clean-out my drive lube bottles - which, it turns out, were full of goo... After I did this I checked their operation with an ohmmeter and they are not always working as I expect they should.. So maybe I've found the...
Fixed!
Was indeed the circulation pump.
New pump has a reasonable but smooth resitance when you turn it - so I suspect my other pump is on its way out too.. Both old pumps span easily - although one was quiet.
Anyway - In the mean time I'm back running again.
Thanks for your help,
Nigel.
Great Lakes did an excellent job for me... I just sent them my hull number/boat details and they made up a complete new canvas set exactly as the originals. Only bits I had to fit myself were the snaps (or whatever they're called) for the rear cover - so they lined up with where the opposite...
Hi Juma,
This is interesting and might help explain an issue I'm having with overheat alarms that I can't trace - but suspect its electrical/an earthing issue somewhere. Why did you suspect your alternators were faulty? What were the symptoms?
Nigel.
How flat did your batteries go? - If they went very very flat or over-flat a number of times it could be you'll not get a full charge into them again..
You might have fixed the original issue with the alternator connection but won't see it if your batteries have passed-on..
After my second sump unit got unreliable I decided to install a splashproof dual-throw switch inside the shower - which I've wired into the sump wiring to give me:
UP: Pump always on
CENTRE/OFF: Pump always off
DOWN: Pump on automatic (i.e via the float switch)
When I leave the boat I...
This overheat alarm is driving me mad!
Since starting the original thread I've had the impeller changed, swapped out the transom-to-oil-cooler hose (getting rotten), replaced the oil cooler itself (which was leaking slightly), the manifolds, risers and elbows (which were 12 years old), and...
Thanks for your help...
I took a closer look today and could feel some play in the pump pully even whilst the belt was still on.. So removed the belt and spun the pump - which sounded horrible - grinding type of noise even when spinning by hand. I took the belt off my other engine to...
One of my engines has started making a horrible sort-of-crunching / grinding noise that -seems- to be coming from near the water circulation pump. Its not a very regular frequency or in synch with engine revs but does increase in speed as you rev up. I can't think of a better way to describe...
Thanks.
Things are getting ever-more wierd with this... I've bled all the air out the cylinders, I think, and the drive will go fully down.. Once.
Only problem is, after a couple of up-down cycles the trim won't go all the way down again. And each time I go through an up-down cycle, the...
These rams are driving me mad... Rebuilt and re-installed today. Without the drive on, one works fine but the port ram will not return all the way - stays about three inches out of the cylinder. Ahh... Any ideas? - Is this a seal/valve issue or air lock or maybe bad cylinder wall so one of the...
Hi,
I've had a leaky trim ram/cylinder so decided to give it a strip-down and re-build.. Water was getting in the fluid and one ram would drop by itself when the boat is out the water and the drive removed. Although this would take a few days.
I took both cylinders off the boat and drained...
