NBOA is the broker I have used for the past 10 years. I had my coverage with AIG but was non-renewed this year. Supposedly they are getting out of the small to medium size boat market. NBOA put me with Chubb. They didn't require a survey despite my boat being more than 10 years old.
John,
There was a sponsor on this board years ago that made custom sheets but they are long gone and I don't recall the name. I wasn't thrilled with the quality.
The homeless problem in Charlotte has gotten worse in the past two years with Covid and other issues. The police allow them to live on the bus benches so actual riders have to stand in the rain. We have a minority controlled government that refuses to allow enforcement of loitering laws...
Safe Harbor bought my marina last year. They have also bought all of the other large marinas on LKN so there is no where to run to. I am in a yacht club/marina. So far I have seen little change in the operation. They posted a bunch of rules and procedures but none were more than common sense...
Inland there is no requirement for wind coverage. Standard HO insurance covers it. I pay $1,000 per year for my boat on Lake Norman with an agreed value of $145,000. Taxes in NC vary depending on location where the boat is stored. About $1,000 for me.
My marina is fully staffed and the dock hands help with tie up, pump out and they do the fueling. Most are college kids. I tip generously. They are all exceedingly polite kids and I know many of their parents.
For anyone running a 280DA I would put some screws into the cover to hold it in place. I lost mine at the marina. Once I found out the cost I hired a diver to find it. $75.
prices for coatings are all over the board. Not unusual to hear $2000 to do a car. Extrapolate that to a 19" boat and I can see $4000. Not that I would pay it. Wax on, wax off.
Customization is the biggest benefit. My prior boat had screens. Hated them never used them. When I had my enclosure made for my current boat I saved a lot be eliminating the screens.
The vast majority of deed recordings are done by attorneys well known to the folks in the registrars office. They come in every day. Some sketchy looking Russian dude no one knows that comes in with a transfer deed to record is going to get a lot attention. He would need to prove that the...
