Hi all especially to 280DA owners who dont have a tv and want to add.

I bought my boat used and there was no tv. I'm spending a lot of time on board and wanted a tv. I bought a 12 volt 19 inch lcd tv also have built-in dvd slot, usb port and a memory card reader port. It is a local brand called Next(producing satelite systems, home tv/stereo, car audio/navigation and many others) but the board in the tv is Samsung and the picture quality is very high.

I bought the tv, big size glomex antenna and a telescopic leg to mount the tv to the wall behind inside the port side lounger.

I disassembled the base flag mast on the radar arch and put the glomex with a short metal bracket at same holes wire down the cable of anttenna through the left inside the radar arch to the port side of engine room and then continued it inside the candid panel of the mirrored cupboard of the mid berth and finalized it in the main distribution panel. So put the glomex signal gain controller just below the inverter button on the 220 volt panel.

Isntalled the tv leg to the wall and wired the antenna, power and voice cables through the ceiling of the mid berth's privacy curtain which you cant see normally then attached them to the tv.

The leg was standart size but I made weld metal profile to enlarge its size so when I fully open the leg and turn it to view from cockpit from helm, port side lounger and the right side (only near to the entrance door from platform) of the aft bench seat can easily watch tv. Also very easily watch it from dinette, v- berth and if you open the door could partly watch from wc.

There is a few general pictures of the lcd tv project but as soon as I'm gonna add pictures of how I wired it from the ceiling and the different watching positions from cabin wc and outside.

Best regards.

Thanks for the post as I am in the planning stages of the same project.

I am especcially interested in mounting the base to both the inside wall as you have, as well as the "dash" area above the port side loung in the cockpit. Anyone with any advice PLEASE chime in with some do's & don'ts.

In my opinion you shouldn't put a base on the left side dash and inside wall simultaneously. To do that you have to wire the power, antenna (and voice) cables twice. So when you leave the tv inside the outside cable can get wet while cruising or rain, wave or even if you put cover can get moist.
I was thinking to make it as you thought. But I recommend you to put it inside and get a custom made long leg and turn it out to watch tv outside cabin.

Hi all

Here are some detailed photos of my installation. It can give some idea those dont have tv and want to install like me where to wire the cables and where to put the leg.

First of all the all cables power, antenna and voice which I use the AUX of the clarion to hear the tv from boats speakers.

This is the suitable place for the leg and I can still push the light button when tv is fully closed to wall.

Originally when I bought the leg it was the lenght until the screw hole where tv isnt in in this picture, I made iron meld to enlarge its lenght to watch from frontest and aftest points of the boat and also from head.
The leg has three points to turn/move and and one point on tv. The base where to assembled to wall and after 12cm another turning point and third where the empty hole is seen in the picture now itis enlarged and holding the tv is the third point has 45cm lenght. The bracket holds the tv has also upward and downward movement to watch from sleeping or from head or from cockpit.

I'm securing the door when folded away by zip tying the arms of leg from three point. I searched at some boat stores for "hook and elbow catch" style door securing latch used in like 360DA but couldn't find and have/had no problem with zip tying. It has very little play and not hitting the wall while jumping over the waves.

I'll be onboard tomorrow and will take pics of my zip tying method.

As for the cockpit watching I cover the windshield with the cockpit cover until the tv is covered and comfortably watching it.

Hope this helps.

PS: I tried to pic but can't paste the photobucket link.

Thanks for the info, how is the bracket screwed to the 'wall', did you remove the seat back in the coockpit and bolt thru, if do any tips on how that is removed?

The bracket has its own 6 screw holes, I just used wood screws for fixing it to the wall.

Didn't needed to remove the seat and used appropriate length of screws to not exceeding from the wall (don't remember right now the depth/thickness of the wall) damaging the seat.

They are holding well since then and never moved the bracket a millimeter.

Finally could post the pic in Google chrome, I guess something is wrong about IE.
