I have been ripping and tearing apart my boat as inspections indicated rotten transom. I have removed part of the floor and found the stringers completely rotten and the under floor foam is saturated to the point I can squeeze water out by hand.
My question is the stringers were glued down with a bluish green goo, will I have to remove this goo prior to glueing in the new stringers? I will be using epoxy, Cabosil as my glue then glass them in.
Thank for any info

Dan

Thank you Confused for your response, I was afraid someone would tell me that as the bluish beading compound they used is 1” thick in some spots.
I plan on using 1708 glass on everything including transom. 1 other question( and I’m sure there will be more as I go along on this project) is my plan is to tear out the stringers 1 (there are 4 total stern to bow)at a time starting at the chine area and working in to the center from both sides, the boat is on a roller trailer, will this be sufficient or will I need to support the hull, was thinking tear 1 stringer out replace with new maranti 1088 3/4” bead and glass in move to the other side of the boat do the same thing working to center then put the rib members in last. Does this sound like a logical plan?

Thanks,
Dan

Sounds logical. Search Frisco boater on YouTube. He did the same to his boat and documented it. Pics of your project would help you.

Nearing the end of the same project on a 245. This was our first fiberglass boat, so no real prior experience before tackling this one. Had some helpful input from several forum members.
It is a really big mess while cutting and grinding. I chose to do it all at same time in stages. Cleanliness during assembly is important and not sure how else you could better deal with any bulkheads .
Can't speak for your model, but the 245 hull was thick and had no deformation while it was gutted. It was supported with 2 full length bunks directly under the strakes. If concerned with your rollers, you should be able to check the inner hull with a straight edge.
Lots of photos and measurements taken while tearing it apart was great for reference material while putting it all back together.
Good luck with yours and post a few pics of your progress.

Thanks for the replies, the Hull seems to be 1/2” or so thick and 3/8” at the transom.
Yes I would like to do all the dirty work and just get it done all at once, I removed everything from the inside including steering and throttle so nothing is in my way. I may just brace the hull just for insurance. I’ll try to get some pictures posted, not sure how to do that but I’ll give it a shot.

Thanks everyone,

Dan
