Our bay and lake boat is in question. The oil was at the full mark on the dipstick. Dad took it in to have the oil changed last year. This year dad said I can do it for him. Thanks dad! So went and got the oil change stuff and removed 2.5 liters from the engine. So that is just under 2.75 quarts. Now that isn't good when it should have 5.5 quarts.

I have searched high and low and can't find any specs on the dipstick. This one is not OEM for sure. Anybody happen to have the specs, or should I just mark and cut when it gets to the full mark?

You drained it out the bottom or thru the dipstick tub?
Meaning you're sure you got all the old oil out?

As long as you're certain it's empty.
Refill with one quart low and check where that lands on the dip stick. (Be sure it's not over filled)
Use a nail or a punch and just make a couple of marks, or a good file.
Add the last quart and mark again.

Be certain it's not to full, if the crank and rods churn up the oil that'sas bad as being low.

I went through the dipstick tube. I put the pan level sucked everything out then waited an hour and came back and got a little more out. If there was anything left, it couldn't be much more than a film. I put 4 quarts in and marked the dip stick. Then put in the fifth quart and sharpied the stick. Ran it for a few minutes then checked the level. It was in between so I put the half quart in.

Found that the folks that did the oil last year put a cheap oil filter on. No markings on it and no anti siphon in it. Another reason to do things myself.

On a side note, I should be getting my rebuilt carb back this week. Now to get my fat ass wedged between the motors of the 300DA and replace the starter. Glad I have some good rope and a tractor to pull me out.
