Hello
I am looking at buying a 1984 24' sea ray walkaround With a 350 mercruiser
Is there anything I should know about theses boat or any common problems I should look For?
How does it ride/handle swells and how is it for ocean fishing?

Thanks
Carter

That is a pretty rare model. I have never seen one. It's a 34 year old boat....what kind of condition is it in? I've been on this forum for 10 years and I have never seen this model referenced. However, I'm sure the hull is the same for all of the SRV 245 models that year. There are several guys that have one of the other models so someone will get back to you. I did own a 1987 S-24 Sorrento (Cuddy) with the same engine package as the one you are looking at. I suspect the hulls were pretty similar. We liked the boat a lot and took it to Catalina Island from Long Beach, CA (26 miles) several times and we never felt nervous. That said, you do have to pick your days on a boat that size on the open ocean.

With a boat that old it is imperative to get a professional marine survey done prior to purchase with a focus on the integrity of the transom and , stringers and floor/deck. You don't want to deal with any rot. Do you have any pictures?

Interesting.... I don't fish so I can't offer anything there but, from the looks of the outdrive and the throttle/shifter it appears that someone has done some updating. The drive appears to be an Alpha I which I don't think came out until '85 but it looks newer than that.

Get the survey, make sure the structure is sound before proceeding. Good Luck

Walk around cuddy fisherman Sea Ray is rare . They are around
I have a 1984 SRV 21 . Owning one 20 years . Live in Central Fl.
Original engine was 4 cylinder Mercruiser 488 . 188 HP Frugal on fuel burn
Lots of fishing room all sides, and a plus walking up front too fish .
Small cuddy with head under seat . Adult cant stand , 2 can lay out over night and ruff it .
Always thought I maintained boat but now I am faced with transom work . Discovered a soft transom when I was swapping engine . Never had any indication , no surface cracks
As a boater all my life ( now a young 70 ) I am faced with a common problem with older boats . FIX OR NOT TOO FIX .
Few years ago I purchased a 31 ft twin gas guzzling fancy cruiser, My water condo . Leave at a marina at ocean . Cant compare boats, both boats offer different features , but with a smaller fishing boat you are really mobile. Not tied too marina .
Striping engine room, removed gimbal , Wood is rotted . Water intrusion . Big job
Doing more searching discovered some of the floor stringers around gas tank cavity is also soft . Feeling foam that too felt wet .
DAMN . what does one do . Rip floor re- do everything .
Sending out too a shop labor cost is way too much
Collector car its an investment . A boat , is not
I have been trying too sell with a vg trailer ., Hoping a young person wants too roll up their sleeves and salvage this fun boat .
I have a 3.7 165 HP with 17 hours , Truly a drop & go ,. new old inventory
Its a old boat . There will be problems . If boat has a 4 cylinder those engines are aluminum blocks . Prone too issues . Cheap fuel burn , easy too work on but parts are scarce , expensive . Manifold & risers costly .
My biggest enjoyment at boat ramp
Fellow boaters say, Never knew Sea Ray made a walk around cuddy cabin
From what I understand Sea Ray made the fisherman model then shifted too Laguna
Early Laguna had similar body style , with bit larger & higher cuddy cabin . IO
Within few years same body with OB . Eventually center consoles , OB
Your forum post was a few months ago . Hope my response helps
Curious did you find a nice fisherman
