Swapping engines on 1986 SeaRay with a Mercruiser 140. New (used) engine did not have a fuel pump installed but looks to have the new fuel pump design with the filter bowel mounted o the bottom instead of the top. Can I use the old fuel pump (old design) on the new motor? I think the arm that rides on the cam to pump might be pointing the wrong way...
Thanks for your help!!

Yes but I think you may want to look at how many gaskets are between pump and block, I recall seeing somewhere that they doubled up pump gaskets to get lever length right. Wether this applies to your particular version vs the many versions over the 50 years this engine has been in service is tough to tell.

Bottom line if you have 4-6 psi fuel pressure when done you should be ok

Thanks for the advice!! I was afraid that something might break once inside the engine...
Now I'll have to study up on how to figure out how much fuel pressure I have...Lol
Thanks again

Need a fuel pressure gauge and t it in the fuel line from pump to carb.

Those Chevy four-bangers are a hell of an engine. Great little power plants. Mine is a 1970
120 hp and is original except for the carb. Old points iggy.

Absolutely. Growing up key neigbors had a ‘69 110 hp in a startcraft bow rider. Everybody in the neighborhood skied behind that for 40 years. My folks had a ‘91 3.0 SR 170 that passed on to me, my kids learned to ski and wakeboard behind that. It was still running very well when I sold it in 2016, and I never babied it.
