Hello all, 1991 SD 310

I have recently changed the oil on both 7.4 engines with v drive both were running just fine.

After oil change port side engine will not crank. No click, nothing.

I assumed it was the ignition switch and changed that but no change.

Now I'm zeroing in on the starter solenoid. Is this engine a standard rotation or not?

Is there a oil level sensor that cuts power if not made? I assume the starter is the culprit because using the emergency power to start does nothing also.

Everything up stream of the starter solenoid is good. I am aware that I can jump the post to see if its the solenoid but I was hard pressed for time last weekend. I would prefer to have a starter in hand for next weekend but want to make sure I get the correct one if they are different.

Any help would be appreciated thank you
Steve

A simple but often overlooked is the shifter position. If off a tiny bit you won’t start. Look for something knocked off while doing your service as it is odd for that to be immediate after crawling around down there. I’ve had even good boatyards cause problems by accident. Good luck
! PS may be worth it to hire a good mechanic for an hour rather than changing parts.

You know oddly enough I remember the port shifter pulled down a little bit when I was leaving the boat...
God I hope its that simple. Thanks!!

If so you got lucky ! I hope that’s it… let me know. That has been the case for many mechanic visits.
