4.3L w/Alpha 1 Gen 2 Drives
I hope that someone knows the answer to this. I have a recently purchased 1995 Sea Ray 290 with twin 4.3's. This was a salt water boat and the decals are gone. I need to replace at least one Alpha 1 Gen 2 out drive. Does anyone know what the gear ratio is supposed to be?

Sea Ray wasn't sure but thought 1.62. A tech told me to check the letter stamp on the input shaft which is "D" and indicates 1.84. As I'm not certain that this drive is original I do not know what should be on the boat.

Can anyone help?

1.84 is my best guess. why are you replacing it?Where are you located?
You can pull one and rotate the input shaft and count the number of turns for 1 full prop rotation.

I'm in Rochester, NY-the land of fresh water only-but the boat came out of SC and was a saltwater dock queen. One drive is shot and needs to be replaced. I'll probably end up doing both but want to know what ratio this boat is SUPPOSED to have.

My daughter lives in Trenton, NJ and I just got back from there this past Wednesday.

only ask because a customer of mine bought a gen ii by mistake . can check the ratio on it and get back to you .
I`m central nj exit9 njtp

I already did that but can't determine 1.62 vs 1.84 due to slop. I'm confident that what's on there is 1.84 but cannot be certain it's the original drive. As I stated previously Sea Ray customer service thought that the drives were 1.62 but the person couldn't be positive, for some reason. I was originally looking for 1.62 replacements but that ratio was recently questioned by someone in the business!
