1998 SR 290 Sundancer - Little Ducky II

update to my hydro lock. Both engines were rebuilt since both had the same hours. Both motors needed new heads since that was the source of the water in the cylinders. In the one pic you can see the hole in the exhaust valve port. All in all, I’m now looking forward to a great season next year!

WOW, How many hours did you have on the twins?

Did the hydro lock occur because of leaky manifolds which in turn caused the hole in the block or was it all caused by the hole in the block?

Both motors have around 570 hrs. I’m told the heads rusted through. Risers and manifolds were ok but I had replaced them last year. Problem was getting the vortex heads for these engines. I didn’t want to go buying aftermarket heads. When I had the blocks done, they had to bore the cylinders 30 over and now I have all new pistons in both motors. I installed perko flush valves before reinstalling the motors. They will be flushed after every trip. Haven’t decided if I’ll start them next week or just wait until the spring. It’s winterizing time here in NJ.

Do you still have the original VHF in the panel? Is that what I am seeing?

Yes, still works fine.
That looks good.
I still use the original in my 2001 (see pic). I like the classic look, but I am upgrading to a new one with MMSI and DSC capability for safety. I am going to try and keep the original Raytheon in place. Still working out the placement plan.

This year is not going to be much of a boating season but I'm going to enjoy when I do get the time.

But it's never a dull moment.

I've been dealing with a water leak behind the toilet. Not really a cramped place to get to but none the less I really never observed how the plastic tubing was cut and I just blamed it on the seatech fitting. After watching a few youtube videos on trouble shooting push to fit fittings I decided to look a little further and it looks like who ever made the cut really didn't get a nice clean cut as required with push to fit fittings.

Once I made a nice clean cut and reinstalled the seatech fitting what would you know..... no more leak. ;)

Picture below is what I was dealing with.

Well my boat is out of the water and finally getting worked on and I don't think they saw the camera yet so I get to watch them work :p

They pulled the boat yesterday afternoon, pressure washed the bottom and the drives. Today in a matter of a few hours had both drives off, port engine out, new transom assembly in and engine back in the boat.

Tomorrow the boat is getting its bottom prepped, some light repair and a repaint.

More to come.

Oh No More Boat Bucks.......

I know we all like getting calls that start off "while your boat is out of the water" o_O

The old drives on LD II are getting some love to push them a few more years. Sand, prime and paint. The hull is getting buffed as well to get some shine back and get those ghost strips off from where old decals used to be.

I'm so glad I had a survey done 3 years ago to negotiate some of this work off the price of the boat. ;)

sounds like you'll have a very good baseline for years to come, and if they're working that quickly it must be an experienced group at the marina. take some pics

This is my normal view. I had to take the notifications off since the phone kept on alerting me of movement so I didn't capture the engine out or back in. Today I can only hear buffers or sanders. The marina pulled another boat for bottom paint so the guy can work on both at the same time..... between coats.

I haven't seen your Porsche around the marina much this year...Which means we haven't seen you! You doing OK?

I'm physically fine. I'm working a job east of Atlanta, GA which has taken up most of my time. I do stop by once in a while to check on things usually early in the morning or late in the evening when I'm traveling to and from GA. I've stayed a few nights traveling home on Fridays but get up early Saturday and head the rest of the way home.

Next weekend August 1st and 2nd I'll be there if the boat is back in the water.

Oh I've also been driving my Red 16v Volkswagen Scirocco back and fourth to GA.
