350 Mercruisers Blue Water, V drives
Good afternoon everyone. I'm looking at buying a '99 310 Sundancer with twin 5.7 Blue Water Mercs and V drives. Boat looks clean! Anything in particular to watch out for on this model??

Thanks, Dave

There was a service bulletin around alternator brackets in that era 5.7, that had to do with shredding belts. Look for soft spots in the bow decking around the windshield and anchor locker. The anchor windlass pressure finger is known to wear down causing failure to retrieve. They no longer make the finger, but someone on this forum was remanufacturing them, so you might be able to find one that way. Either that or just switch over to all chain.

Other than that, just normal due diligence afforded by a good surveyor.

Thank you for responding Bobeast. My previous Sea Ray did not have a windlass and this is the first boat I ever hadwith one so I'm not sure what the pressure finger is but I will do some homework on that. I am planning to have it surveyed by a professional so hopefully he can go over all the other things that you have just mentioned. Again thank you for your help, have a great boating summer!

Thanks Dave. You as well, and welcome to the forum.

I have bought mine (pressure finger)from Dixon precision that’s on this website. here is a kit with a pic of the backside of the pressure finger. Dixon was $60 for the finger only, which is typically all you need

I don’t think I will ever own a boat again without a windlass, just great to have!

Check the bow rail if it's got screw mounting it to the deck that's the newer design if you don't see mounting screws then it's bolted from underneath if this is the case take a good look make sure they are all tight. The under bolted rail requires you to pretty much remove the cabin interior to remount them. I know this was the case on the 1998 model not sure when they changed to top screw mount like my 2000 310. I looked at a 98 that looked brand new only had 320 hours on the motors and the whole front deck was ruined from the bow rail mounts leaking.

Ok, thanks for the input. Would have to walk away if it's all rotted! I will make sure the surveyor pays extra attention to that area too.
