I have 2 problems with my 2000 340 Sundancer
1. Water system: the water pump was replaced in 2016. The system recently started spurting water (not flowing smoothly) and it spurts out of the faucets. I cleaned the trap bowl (thats connected to the pump) that captures "crud" in the system and that's when the problem started. I can hear the pump working and I can also hear the air spurting. (FYI, I also use a tablespoon of bleach when I refill the tank to keep the water pure)

2. Head system: the gauge for the the head system (located in the electrical panel) that measures how empty/full the tank is lights up and reads as "Empty". The gauge continues to light up and it reads "Empty" even as the tank fills up

Any thoughts on how to resolve these 2 issues?

Thanks

1. Try removing and reseating the filter. You might not have put it back on correctly and are drawing in air.

2. The float on the bottom of the 'empty' tube is likely gunked up (toilet paper, etc). It may clear by itself. Or try some NoFlex - won't hurt anything to try it, regardless. Otherwise, pull the tube assembly out and clean.

What is No Flex?

There are only three level readings for the holding tank. Empty, 1/2 and Full. It'll read empty until it gets 1/2 full. Are you sure it is filling until at least half full?

Yes, it has been reading as "Empty" for the whole season. It did the same thing ALL last year too. I had the tank pumped out yesterday and about 20 gallons were removed. The gauge showed "empty" before and after the pump out.

Has anyone else used the No Flex Digestor that was recommended above?

Here's responses I found on club searay from years ago. I am NOT sure these will work...
1. put a bunch of ice cubes in you system via the pump-out. As they melt in the water/waste, they will shake around with the boats movement and will usually clear off debris from the switches (if they are in fact "stuck" from waste).

Another response was:
2. Pump your holding tank completely dry and flush it with fresh water several times, then be sure it is empty. Next flush several gallons of white vinegar down the system and run the boat for an hour in choppy conditions...of just anchor near a channel where you get some wake activity. Don't flush anything down the system while you are doing this. Pump it out and if you are lucky, you may fix the stuck float. If not, all you lost was $10 worth of vinegar and an afternoon on the water.

I've always wondered about the ice cube trick. In the threads you read, did anyone actually do that? Or was it just theory? The reason for wondering is I thought that the dip tube goes awful close to the bottom of the tank... meaning too close for the ice cubes to escape. But that's just something I've always wondered - I don't know for sure.

Vinegar sounds like worth trying, too. Certainly can't hurt by doing it and maybe you'll get lucky. But I don't know how the vinegar would react with the Noflex and whether it would 'deactivate' the Noflex. Either completely flush the tank well or try the Noflex first.

Even though the empty light stays on, do the other lights come on?

Other than pulling it out and cleaning it, I don't think there's any "sure fire" way to fix it. It all depends on how gunked up it is. But give some ideas a try and see if you get lucky! :)

Hi
Did you end up getting this resolved please?
I have the same issue :(
I put the hose (fresh water) into the toilet for about 3 mins and didnt move from empty as well

What is No Flex?
No flex is a product with live bacteria to eat other bacteria and works very well. However, you add bleach to your water which will kill the Noflex bacteria and make it useless.
1), pull the senders on your holding tank (smelly) and clean. Then going forward do not use bleach in water and add noflex weekly. Give it time and all will clean up.

This may be the single best product I have ever come across since owning a boat with a head. Buy and use as it indicates. After a month, if your probes are not working correctly, pull them, clean, and reinstall. You can order other places for less if you buy in quantity. It works....

Spurting usually indicates air in the system. Only three things that I know of can cause that.

1) a recent repair could have introduced air, in which case you can turn all faucets on to purge the system. The problem should then go away.

2) You ran the fresh water tank dry. The solution (after filling the tank) is the same as #1.

3) You could have a leak in the system
a) If the leak is before the pump then you won't likely be losing much if any water. I had a cracked pickup tube in a fresh water tank and while I didn't have any water leaks, I was getting air in the system as soon as the tank level dropped low enough to expose the crack.
b) If the leak is after the pump, you likely have water dripping somewhere. The usual suspects are connections throughout the system, the hot water tank, and the pressure relief valve.
c) The pump itself could have an internal leak, maybe from a compromised gasket or diaphragm.

I'm Kat, the Noflex Digestor Amazon seller, and paid sponsor here on this forum. If you're curious about Noflex Digestor or already a faithful user you'll probably want to stay tuned for my upcoming Spring Fling discount offer, to be advertised here in about a week.

Like BBWhite, JR stated Noflex Digestor is the best, and here's why in my opinion of course:
Noflex is an oxidizer, it creates generous amounts of oxygen upon contact with waste, is specially coated to sink to the bottom of your tank where it continues to bust up sludge, kill stink, and neutralize chemicals (like bleach-you don't want to use) that upset septic balances. After Noflex breaks down it becomes harmless baking soda, not toxic to the environment or people.

It doesn't contain weak enzymes or bacteria that stop working in extreme temps. It is a proprietary formula that allows natural good oxygen loving bacteria to thrive in your holding tank, pipes and sani- systems, dissolving away sludge and chewing up odors in hours not days.

Its best to use a little flushed in the toilet more often, say every other or every third day. Then watch your gauges start working, your pump outs become painless and no embarrassing odors. It is some kind of miracle. Also try some in your standing bilge water, shower and galley drains too. Don't use too much if you have a sump pump, too much might clump up.

Instructions for best practices are on my website www.boatersmate.com

Note to BBWhite JR: I'm practically your neighbor, we're on Lake Hartwell. With all this rain we should have a good summer on the water!

I have always used the RV deodorizer stuff in the toilet. It does not seem to do much other than mask some smell. I also had problems with my guage reading...or not...
I can't wait to try this myself, it is ever gets warm enough to boat here!

Hi Groucho, I hear ya weather and RV stuff. We've been boating a long time, tried every product out there, few years back found Noflex Digestor on a forum and took a chance.

Before Noflex we couldn't get a clean pump out and blamed the marina, but it was many years of baked on sludge and crusted sensors. After Noflex sometimes quite large chunks peeled off, enough to block the duckbill valves. So if you're boat is old like ours, sorry, but it might happen.

We were so impressed we went to the manufacturer with a request to become brand ambassadors to get the word out to as many boaters as we could. There's always those who've found another method, or live with the issues, but if you want a guarantee (I personally refund you & so far I haven't had any complaints), this crazy powder does the trick.

Its expensive to ship, so some of those other cheaper prices you may find aren't so cheap at check out when shipping is added. I'm running the sale very soon, to get the word out, and hope that people will come to my website too. Thanks for your interest, if you have any particulars to discuss, email is great.

Have boated on Hartwell in the past quite a bit. It is a pretty lake. We had rain last spring like this...Lanier got 4-5 feet over full pool....

Love our Georgia Lakes, they're simply amazing. We've never tired of the sunsets overnighting in our special cove. We used to birth at Aqualand Marina on Lanier and absolutely loved it. But we had to save money to keep afloat (pun intended), moved further away from our home in Berkeley Lake to Hartwell. Haven't regretted the adventure, it never gets old. See you on the water and here in this forum my friend.

Will do! It should be as early as this week, I'm working to get your discount code to behave properly with all this tech. Maybe y'all will be my testers. Thanks for your interest, I'll be in touch, your matey, Kat Kat@boatersmate.com

The gauge on my holding tank has all the lights on, even if pumped out. It was not obvious how to pull and clean the sensors (the wires run through a separate bulkhead fitting on top, but the fitting does not have threads that I could see). How does one pull and clean the sensors?
