So we just bought a 340 and I’m new here - and happy to be! Had a question. During the survey I noticed the hinged mirror in the head with a worn out Velcro piece to secure it. It was flopping, and seemed wrong, but I figured there must be a purpose for the hinge (swing up to avoid something? But no latch on the overhead?). Why the hinge? Just to hide any screw heads from showing? If so, fail.

Got the boat home and figured it’d gone 16 years so put it low on the list and then last weekend we were hittin it pretty good and my lady found a shattered mirror all over the head floor (thanks central VAC - fantastic!) so obviously we all know what happened.

Just felt that was a sacrifice in function just to obtain form. Hope there’s not a lot more of that type of thing on the horizon!

I have one in my 320 as well, out new Velcro on before going in rough seas, just lucky I guess. This will be a minor issue for you, other issues will be big, just the way it is when you buy a 13-16 year old boat...

I replaced the mirror with stainless. On the stainless I attached about four big spring loaded paper clips for wet bathing suits etc... Also installed a towel bar on the bottom of it.

Hinged mirrors are a mystery on my 44 Sundancer as well! I have one in my aft head as well as another in my main salon. If anyone knows why these mirrors are hinged PLEASE tell us!

You got that right. A new mirror is about as minor as it gets so we're in good shape so far!

Good call and I'm thinking the same! There really isn't much in there for hanging towels and clothes at the moment...

Hello, on my 2002 34 sundancer there is an access panel under the mirror. Have not looked behind the panel but I will!!!
