We are thinking about buying a 2010 Sea Ray 205 SP for $21,000 from a private seller. Here are the specs from the seller . . . https://offerup.co/JwR8nh8OV7
What questions should we ask? Is this a good deal? We are in the Seattle area. Thank you!

That boat looks like a great deal if it checks out. The tower is a very expensive option and hydraulic trim tabs, while not necessary, are another expensive upgrades and will help plane off at lower speeds for water sports.

I did not see which engine propels this boat.
Bring a marine mechanic along on the sea trial when you close so compression can be checked along with scanning the engine data.

an hour meter can say anything but the real hours are stored in the ECM. Have them also check the bellows closely if they have not yet been replaced.

from the limited understanding gained by a few words and a picture it is difficult to make a recommendation of yes or no. The price is acceptable and if it checks out mechanically I’m sure you will love it.

I know I love mine.

Agree with Blaster. The price is fair with the upgrades. The 5.0 MPI would make it a better deal. It is still a 50+ MPH boat with the 4.3 or 5.0 TKS option. My only concern would be if it was used in salt water. More pictures would help.

Don’t delay too long or it will be sold out from under you.

The trailer looks to be in brand new condition.

We have an appointment to look at it tonight as the first people to look. I am trying to figure out how to get a marine mechanic to go with us.

Agreed that might be hard to do on short notice. If nothing else, insist on a sea trial. The post says it was professionally maintained. If so there will be records. You will want to see those especially if you can't get a mechanical survey done. If you like the boat you could try and make an offer contingent on both a sea trial and mechanical survey. See how the seller responds. If they refuse then run. Or agree to the sea trial only and if everything works as it should take a chance and skip the survey but only if the maintenance records check out.

Even if it’s a lemon you can completely re-power it and still be well below what new similar models cost. Another benefit is this is the last year of the non catalyst engines which will give you some built in “equity”. The catalyst engines are higher cost upfront and higher ownership cost due to more expensive maintenance as well as more to fail. When they fail they are very expensive to replace.

I bet it’s a real good find without issues other than from sitting and not being used. Just don’t be dazzled by the thought of being on the water and seriously focus and maybe even take some pictures or videos of anything that you question.

Due diligence on inspection but don’t insult the seller with any minor issues. It’s a hot market so you have to enter the deal all prepared to close and tow it home.

Blaster is right. It's a hot market. I dropped my boat off today at a Skipper Bud's location for a minor repair and their sales lot was virtually empty.

They are not the same quality when it comes to the, engineering, resins, and materials Used to construct them. SeaRay will maintain a higher resale value for this reason.

Larson is okay and I suggested you pick what makes you happy.

I like the first one but it’s older and overpriced in comparison to the SeaRay. The blue one looks kind of ugly.

you do have the Volvo power with the Larson.

don’t over think and second guess. Be decisive if you are serious. If the SeaRay checks out fine it’s by far the best option you have posted.

Yes I have a 205 but I like things about other brands too. Find a line between what you like and longer term value.

Here is mine. Note the color of the rims on my trailer VS the new spare I have, VS the original picture you posted of the red 205. I have a 2010 205 but I trailer a lot.

On 205 and many others:

ALWAYS REMOVE BIMINI FROM BOAT BEFORE BACKING INTO GARAGE!

Models with the tower, always remember to lower it first!

Thank you all so much. We bought the boat for $20,000 and everything checked out. I am sure I will be contact you all for questions now that we have a Sea Ray

So we are on the boat and we just put $100 worth of gas in and the boat continues to beep when started and shows empty??? We ran out of gas yesterday, could it still be that low???
