I'm new to Sea Ray and am unsure how to operate the toilet. I'm not sure we'll ever use it but with little grandkids around it may come in handy!

What kind of toilet is it? Vacuflush or porta-poti? Pictures?

Welcome to CSR!

It's a porti-potty. I don't have a picture but it's pretty small. I've read some posts where people say they're not worth having and they just take them out.

Check the backside of the potty to see if it has the pump-out option. Depending on whether you have easy access to a pump out facility, or not, you may want to cap it off and clean/cap the hoses, too.

To each their own on the "worthwhile" part, but they're very simple to use and to empty - actually quite easy to empty - without making a mess, too!. Just disconnect the top half (where you store water) and the take the bottom half to a toilet and dump it in.

Whoa... check with the wife...you might regret that :)

Or maybe not if he boats with his next door neighbor Shirley.

If you post a picture, we can probably help more. But, on that size boat, I suspect it's a regular portapottie. On mine, here's how it worked. Bottom tank empty, you add a small amount of the blue treatment and some water, according to the directions on the bottle. Fill the top tank with water, and I usually put a little blue stuff in there too.

Then, to use it, you open the hole/hatch and do your business. When done, there is a little hand pump to make pressure in the upper tank. Pump it a dozen times, press the release, and it rinses the bowl. Then close the hole/hatch. Done. When you get home, bring the bottom half with you, and you can flush it and then rinse. Depending how much it's used, I sometimes would let it go for a few trips - if only pee in there.

I think some types have a hand water pump, rather than an air pressure pump. So, pics would help with that. Does this answer your question?

By the way, it's worth having. When you gotta go, you gotta go. Better than trying to poop in the lake.

Elaine, Porta potti.
1. Don’t put anything in that you haven’t eaten first.
2. Don’t put any lady accouterments in it.
3. Advice comes from spending untold hours taking apart the jammed up macerator.

Steve you said pics twice, don’t want pics on this subject

The pic request was to be most helpful in identifying the type of portapotty. Cuz I'm trying to help the OP.

It's a 20 foot boat, and it's a portapotty. There is no problem with putting an accoutrement into a portapotty because there is no macerator on a portapotty. You just dump it.

LOL... I am the wife!
Well my wife won’t get on a boat without a place to go potty...it was for our kids and now our grandkids.. I never regretted having a potty on board @Steve in Minneapolis explained the operation perfectly... don’t give up the potty... and if it’s a used thing...my wife always made me buy a new one for our bow riders... small price to pay for boating bliss

Thank you for the smack down. The pic request was to be most helpful in identifying the type of portapotty. Cuz I'm actually trying to help the OP.

Now, read the original post again. It's a 20 foot boat, and it's a portapotty. You eat your poop before you poop? The word is "accoutrements" and there is no problem with putting one into a portapotty. There is no macerator on a portapotty.
Chill out Mr Sensitive, and yes there are macerated on ports pots, I have one, and on previous 3 boats.

While a picture would help... given the boat model, Steve is most likely correct that there is no macerator. Just for future reference, an "MSD" porta potti is not specific to a macerator. It simply has the ability to hook up a hose to it (see my first post) that can then be used with a pump-out or a macerator or both with a Y-valve.

HOPEFULLY, anyone with a macerator is not using it till well offshore in the legal dumpzone... and even then, only in emergencies - pay the couple bucks to get a pump-out.

A 20 foot boat rarely has a macerator. No boat builder plans for a boat that size to be far enough offshore to dump waste. Even on the 25 id bet that was special order, or aftermarket. Or it’s a manual vacu flush instead of a portable one.

My 220 sundeck has a portapottie with a pump out connection at the deck. Certainly no macerator, they just run the pipe under the sanipottie. We have never used it, but wouldn't want to take it out.

Elaine, Sea Ray's official site, the "Sea Ray Owners Club" has a bunch of the manuals for these boats including the toilets. You can register with your Hull Identification Number. The Parts Manual is particularly valuable, it has pictures so you can google and find replacement parts without having to go to the dealer:)
