2021 Lake Michigan Rendezvous

I'm in for a strong "maybe". Hopefully we'll have fewer marinas struggling with water height this year.

Depending on the timeframe, New Buffalo is open and there are no water height issues. Last season they completely pulled each finger pier, painted and raised them. There are quite a few Sea Ray guys in our marina who would love this.

I can help with arranging slips, the DNR system is silly with its slip restrictions and sizes. I am personal friends with the harbor master.

I would be open to a New Buffalo Rendezvous, we had to cancel some reservations a couple years ago due to high water issues.
Throw out some dates

I would need to walk about 60' to get to the New Buffalo municipal marina!

We are trying to bring some groups to New Buffalo for events, there is a lot of misinformation out there about the marina being under water and most of it comes from the DNR website and the management of the marina. It drove me crazy driving by every day and seeing empty slips that could have been occupied. There is a great spot to set up under a newly installed canopy and the restrooms are being completely renovated this spring.

The closest I've been is Michigan City. It certainly looks like New Buffalo would have dramatically more to offer in terms of entertainment options. It looks like there's a few miles of river available for a nice dinghy-cruise as well?

It's a bit of a hike for our northern friends though.

Yes there is quite a bit of river for dinghy cruises! When the lake is rough there are tons of people out cruising the harbor and river. If the lake is nice, we have miles of sand bar available to pull up to and very easy to get to by dinghy.

Sturgeon Bay to NB is quite a distance in one shot for sure, about 210 miles. Although there are a ton of nice marinas on the way down the Michigan side to make a nice trip out of it.

My last N Michigan trip we went from New Buffalo to Frankfort, then Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix, South Manitou, Leland, Ludington, and back home to NB.

We will be gone most of the month of July in the Northern waters.
Carver370, throw out some weekend dates and see who can make it. My experience is, you should have a confirmed date by mid March so the group can get slips.
Sounds like fun !

Need some dates put in here, already have some dates lock in 7/6 to 7/16 and 8/6 to 8/10

Well I'll take a stab here. Let's see what folks say? I'm tentatively booked 7/1-7/6 and 7/30-8/10, going south and north, so I'll selfishly throw some others out.

Weekends:
July 17-18
July 24-25
August 21-12
August 28-29

Anybody care to vote? Or perhaps throw some other options out there.

We are generally up north on a trip the first week of August. We are pretty open throughout June and July.

Well damn. I can't do any of those. Aug 13-14?
If they hold it.... that weekend should be the weekend of the Chicago Air and Water Show...

Hello group; It is a long run for us up north to run to New Buffalo and the docking is limited, I tried last night to see what they had at different dates and my color was orange not green and some dates where red. Lets try South Haven if it is not under water this year. I think this year we should get together and pick a date and a place for 2022 so we can all have the date open and try to get dockage as soon it opens up.

I would ignore the DNR system at this point for the marina. If we wanted to be in New Buffalo on a certain date, I would contact the harbor master and arrange things.

South Haven would be great as well!

South Haven is a little closer for the Northern guys and we did have a great time there a few years ago, the municipal marina has a special form for reserving slips for groups, that would need to be started soon.
My vote is for Aug 13-15th or Aug 27-29th
I am going to be neutral this year, someone else can step up and pick the place and date, Carver370 has already offered to take the reins for New Buffalo and I want to say thanks !
