240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Hello All. Just wanted to say "hello" and introduce myself. After a 14 year hiatus from boating my wife and I purchased a 2006 240 SD in August of last year. The boat is equipped with the 350 MAG engine and Bravo III outdrive. Best of all...only 42 original hours. We love this boat and can't wait to back out on the water. We'll be boating on Lakes Loudon and Tellico in East Tennessee. I've really enjoyed reading all the posts here and have learned much over the past six months. Looking forward to a great summer. Here she is after a good compound/wax. job.

Well guys, after looking all winter at 24 and 26 sundecks, we finally purchased one. 2007 260. Real happy with it. Lots to learn as it is a much bigger boat than our 21' select. Boat is in perfect condition inside. Outside needs a good buffing.

I've had mine for 14 years now on Fort Louden/Tellico as well, and it's been amazing boat. Perfect for those lakes. It does really well in big waves from all the cruisers, at least "decent" for water sports, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get from the dam up to Lakeside Tavern or wherever your crew wants to go. Look for us out on Prater Flats! I keep it at Choto.

I just purchased the same boat last weekend, 2004 instead. it also had low hours..64

Just purchased a 09- 290 Sundeck and cannot wait to get it in the water. Any 290 owners on here?

Yes there is, you might want to post it in the 290 SD thread.

Another first-timer (to Sea Ray, that is) here ... we closed on a 2005 240 SD with 144 hours a week ago today, had our first lake day yesterday. We still have lots of figuring out/fitting out to do, but it's such a huge step up in both size & quality from our previous boat that it's hard to be objective.

I've been reading this forum for a few weeks during the buying process, so a big "thank you" to all previous posters as it's been quite the resource to help with our decision.

Here's a shot of my better half with our new ride:

Congratulations!

It is a great boat with a nice layout. We easily carry 8 people without tripping over each other. We've even had 10 aboard one day and it worked well.

There is so much storage space, makes it easy to spend the day on the water.

Thanks, we're really thrilled with the space and the way it's used. We've transferred everything from our old boat, and most of the holds still look nearly empty. I'm sure we'll change that in a hurry :)

I need to decide where to mount our fire extinguisher - can anyone offer suggestions? It was laying in the storage pocket to the right of the helm when we purchased, but I'd rather free up that space.

I have the bracket attached to the raised floor under the captain's seat, parallel to and next to the side wall. It allows the seat to swivel and is out of the way.

I Mounted mine vertical in the corner behind the captain seat, seat still swivels, but it is a little more visible. Our boat has the automatic fire system in the engine room, so a stand alone isn't required ... but I still like to have one.

Hope to run into you there. We're at Ft. Loudon Marina and usually head up towards Tellico, but we like Prater Flats as well.

Welcome aboard!

We picked up our 2007 2 years ago. It’s a great boat, plenty of storage and room for family and friends. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as we do.

The Seats make it easy to pick out the 2007’s from other model years.

Hi Everyone, we've been enjoying our 240 for almost 3 weeks now, and have discovered a couple of "mystery features" I hope someone can help with:

In the starboard helm storage, under the rails for the cooler there are 6 blocks of wood (or whatever the material is) screwed into the deck. What are they intended to hold?

In front of the port windshield there is a nylon strap with a snap fastener - is this something for the bimini?

Today was our 6th day on the water since taking possesion, and every trip we discover another feature we were unaware of. The 350MAG/B3 combo is great, even with 8 people on board it pulls me out of the water surprisingly quickly on the wakeskate and even a deepwater slalom start. The biggest surprise has been the cockpit sink - pre-purchase we thought it was nice but unnecessary, now we wonder how we managed without one :)

hi JD, welcome to ClubSeaRay..

the "blocks" under the cooler storage rack, help hold the support posts for the tables that fit in the fore and aft seating areas (there are 2, the legs are stored here and the table tops are stored under the cockpit wet bar)…

the nylon strap with snap, is for securing the windshield when placed in the open position. you definitely need to snap it in place if you are in any kind of seas..

Thanks, John, I really appreciate the help as we are slowly but surely getting everything stowed where it belongs.

Now we also know this is not where the stern table pole is stowed:

This is in the underseat hold just forward of the battery compartment, four vinyl loops with twist stud fasteners ... I'm not even going to try to guess.

BTW, I looked for these answers in the manual before posting, but no details are given for storage. The previous owner had everything stored pretty haphazardly, so we're just happy all of the parts are here!
