240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Those are the traditional rockers that you want.

I prefer my co-pilot facing forward as a second set of eyes for debris in the water, channel markers or just ‘hey, did you see that?’.

My ‘05 doesn’t have buttons on the steering wheel. What are those for?

Thanks for the reply. Im looking at a 2007 but waiting For maintenance records before going any further. This one has the second captains seat. I thought the chase lounge was pretty neat but I’m guessing over time your passenger would probably prefer to look forward.
The 2007 has some very nice captains seats. They are one year only. (Sorry, I’m a little partial)

Hey Stephen. We have an ‘07 240 Sundeck with a 5.0mpi/bravo 3. We’re looking at a repower in the next couple months. What are you swapping in? I think we’re going with a 383mag stroker.
https://michiganmotorz.com/mercruiser-383-mag-stroker-mpi-350-hp

I think I am going to go with the 350 Mag, but I am still going back and forth between that and the 383. I am getting mine done in March, not much point getting it done now and then winterizing it.

What ECM ?

Our current 5.0 ECM? I'm not sure. Will have to go look.

I would think the "complete genuine MerCruiser 383ci package" would come with a new ECM. It says has a 10-pin engine wire harness plug. Any questions I should ask MichiganMotorz about this?

The 350 MAG is the right choice in my opinion... we have had a number of 240’s /260’s over the years and it’s a great overall engine drive combo for all water sports and cruising

We looked at the 350 also but it's more expensive than the 383 for some reason.
For $600 cheaper I'll take 50 more HP ;)

Ok another question. Finally got out on the water at the new home and the bay is shallow just out of canal. Today at low”ish” tide I was showing only 2 feet for a pretty good portion until I hit The channel. What’s the lowest I can Safely run the 240? I see The max draft is around 3 feet so that’s not good lol. Thoughts?

Regarding the depthfinder - it can be set to show depth from the waterline, or it can show depth from it's position (basically, the depth below the boat).

Just an FYI, if you're running in that kind of depth, you'll want to change your impeller more often. And even flush the block out.

The red circle is where our place is and you can see the depths to get to the channel. I just don’t see how the 240 is gonna work. Even if I idle out of the mouth of the canals can I get On plane?

I can take off when the depth reads 2.3 ft under the boat.

Drop the tabs, trim the drive all the way down, and move people to the front if you have a crowd.

Interesting...so what would you say you need to idle. I know It’s more shallow now than the summer but I’m nervous about constantly being in shallow water. The floor is all sand and “muck” so no hidden logs etc. I’d love to avoid a pontoon boat at all cost lol

Hi Everyone, new to the forum (but not to boats). I'm in Wisconsin (land of the short boating season) and have a 2001 240 Sundeck that I'm considering getting a hull wrap for. Sole reason is to give it an updated look. We love the layout and interior of the 2001, and ours is in great shape, otherwise we would just get a newer Sundeck.

I've searched the site, but haven't found any examples of a wrapped Sundeck. Anyone have any experience with this? Just looking for examples of how it might look. Likely going for a black hull but not sure if that would clash with the beige interior.

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread or the pics didn't upload, like I said I'm new here! Thanks in advance!

Merry Christmas all. We got our gift a couple days ago. We Re-powered from a 5.0L to this 383 MAG Stroker.
Can’t wait to get it through the break in hours.

Help - Fuel Tank exterior condensation? My 2001 240 always has a little water coming into the engine compartment, even in storage after winterized and out of water for months. The entire boat is dry and water removed, including the onboard fresh water system and hoses. It's coming from the very bottom of the hull somewhere in front of the engine compartment. When I open the main big storage compartment in the center of the cockpit, there is nothing obvious and no water. As you know, the gas tank is between that storage compartment and the engine compartment.

Quantity is only about a quarter/half cup of water every month or so. Again, this is after months of being inside. My only theory is it's the gas tank condensating externally - could this be? Stored inside and temps fluctuate from right around or below freezing up to 60. It's truly mystery water otherwise! I'm confident it's water not another fluid. The tank is pretty full. Thanks!

That’s a little weird but not an impossibility. If your “pretty full” fuel tank is holding on to heat and staying warmer than the outside air you’d get condensation. To me, that is interesting but not to the point I’d be concerned. You could drain/empty your fuel tank and see if it still happens. Or you could fill your freshwater tank and see if it condensates too.

Anyone got some pictures of the port wall in the ski locker for a mid-2000's 240SD? Looking at buying a 2006, and it appears to have some gelcoat broken off, and the fiberglass appears a bit damaged. Trying to compare to what it's "supposed" to look like, and determine is this is a major issue or not.

Upload rotated the pictures, when viewing rotate 90 degrees. The mesh is the floor of the ski locker

I don’t have any pictures but my 2007 doesn’t have any thing like that Area in the storage locker.
