240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Read with interest that you can move the gas spring on the mid floor hatch in order for it to open at 90 degrees. Anyone accomplish this and if so how.
Thanks
I’ve done it on mine.
Here’s a photo.
Move the bracket on the door closer to the hinge.
Move the bracket on the floor slightly closer to the center of the opening. You can see the old screw holes in the photo.

I had a feeling it could be done. Thanks for the photo and confirmation.
You are a blessing to this forum.

Thanks for the kind words.
I just happened to be sitting on my boat when I read your post.

Accomplished yesterday as per your photo.
I am now vertically standing in the ski locker. Super.
Do you have water in your bilge? I have about 1 inch sitting there.
Also getting ready for winterization. I am able to see 3 blue drain plugs. I believe there is 5 but I cannot find the other 2. I believe they are close to the water pump. Accessible or not?
Thanks in advance.

The drain is, like most boats, slightly off the floor so it's normal to have some water in there - the higher you keep the bow, though, the more the water will drain to the bilge. If the boat is on the trailer, then of course the water will go out the garboard drain plug.

Whether or not you have two blue drain plugs on your raw water pump AND/OR one on your fuel cooler depends on which one(s) you have in there. They would be on the back side of the cooler and the side of the pump if they're there. Otherwise, for the cooler, slide the two hoses partially out and for the pump, remove the hoses and bump the engine a few times.

Don't forget to remove the hoses from the block and manifold and poke to ensure they're not clogged up. Don't rely just on the blue drain plugs. You could also remove the small hoses at the water manifold and check that AF is flowing through each when you pour AF into the system.

Also, the 2 plugs that you cannot see are most likely the ones on the raw water pump. I have to remove the bulkhead in front of the motor, lay on the floor and twist your left hand around to reach them. I can usually see them OR feel them, but not at the same time!

Hey, Sea Ray fans! I'm the proud new owner of a 2008 240SD. The boat needs some TLC, including replacing the vinyl on the seat cushions. Can anyone offer some advice on removing the stern cushion mounted over the engine? The seat is hinged, attached by 8 screws. There is a honeycomb foam attached to the underside (atop the engine compartment, for deadening noise, I assume). If I peel away the foam, will I find bolts attaching the cushion? If I destroy the foam when removing it, where can I source a replacement?

Don’t remove the foam. Just feel gently with your hand and you’ll find the 8 or so threaded rods sticking down. Each one has a 3/8” nut and a couple of washers that once removed will release the engine cover seat cushion.

Looking to purchase a late model Sundeck 240 with wakeboard tower if possible. Currently looking at a 2005 model in nice condition that originally came with the factory tower. However, tower was lost by movers when owner had the boat transported. Thus, the boat currently has the mounting brackets on both sides of the hull, but no tower. Any thoughts on whether there is a source for replacement tower? Anyone looking to sell theirs? I already check with XTP and Monster Tower without any luck. Desire to have the tower design that goes over top the existing bimini.

Thanks Randmhall. I am looking at their towers now online. Sounds like they would not be compatible with the OEM tower as delivered by Sea Ray when the boat was new. Unfortunately, the mounting brackets would be different. I do see photos on their website of the Saber tower on a Sundeck 240 which looks nice and would work with the existing bimini. Sounds like I may need to pass up on the current boat I am looking at unless someone has other thoughts or is willing to part with their existing tower.

Can someone tell me the size and quantity of the factory speakers in the 240 sundeck? Are they all 6"? If they are all 6"ish, then are they all woofers? Are there no mid-range speakers?

My 2007 has the basic sound system.
4 speakers
No subwoofer
I think they are 6”.
Keep in mind if you are planning on installing larger speakers, the port side speaker below the side window has an upholstered side panel cut around it.

I replaced mine. I went with Skar marine speakers. They are 6.5's. I did have to open the holes a little bit, but the difference in speakers is unbelievable. I also added a 4 channel Skar amp to power them

Phew, Holy Cow…that was a LONG thread. Lot’s of great info.

We bought out 2001 Sundeck 240 about a week ago, after looking for a couple years. It came with a 2007 trailer which I ripped all the wiring and lights off and re-wired with LED.

350 With the Bravo III. This is my Second Sea Ray, however, I grew up with Sea Ray boats in the family and one very fast Semi Flat Bottom Sanger Running a 454 Blown Chevy with Bassett wet/dry headers.

My last Sea ray was a 97 230 Bow rider which I did a lot to, and, had to repower due to a cracked block.

Anyway, Lot’s of great resources in this thread.

DOES anyone know where to source the plastic/gasket assembly for the Head door. I called my local Sea Ray dealer (MM) and they said they don’t have a source. Also, looking for one more Table pole as I have two tables but only one pole.

Happy New Year Y’all!!

Crickets...CHIRP CHIRP...

Well anyway, couple quick questions..

Looking for one table pole for the 2001 240 and any info on the molding/gasket for the head compartment main door. Called MM and they don't have anything and were less than helpful.

Fun projects ahead on mine as follows:
Adding the Blue Sea Systems add a battery system (second boat i have done this with), additional battery and all Ancor Marine wiring to fix the older electrical wiring. Moving the Radio and AMP to the second battery. Will have the original battery as a spare(third), but it will not be used at this time. Eventually I will add subs and additional speakers and that will power those.
Adding a Fusion Radio, wired and wireless remotes paired with a JL amp and speakers
Changing the EIM to FP Marines setup with Carling switches and a custom cutout for the wired Fusion remote
(mine is working but the dash was cracked and i don't want to have issues with the Peanut pad later)
SeaDeck!!!
I have already fully rewired the trailer with new wiring and LED lighting, and I repaired the surge brakes, will be adding VE VE posts and lighted tops(we love boating till late at night and it helps getting the boat off the lake)
Eventually we will change out the cup holders to stainless
Replacing the winch strap as well, due in part to age.
Finally, when the weather warms up, I'll give it a full compound, polish and coating. I'll be looking into marine compatible ceramic coatings, but I also remember something about a PTEF based coating. Not sure about the durability of that. I just know wax is a waste of time and requires re application.

Cheers and happy New Year!!
