Greetings

I have a 1981 260 Sundancer which has what appears to be a factory installed Onan MCCK 6.5 kw. marine generator set in a compartment located in front of the v berth. I have been informed by a few members of this site that the generator was not offered as an option on this boat in 1981, that Sea Ray would never put a gen.set in front of the v berth, that a 6.5 kw. gen.set is way too big and heavy for a 26 foot boat, etc.

Does anyone know if this was an option offered by Sea Ray in 1981? Does anyone have a similar sized boat with a factory gen. set located ahead of the v berth; if so, what size is it?

Thanks

That's a typical place for an air conditioner, buy I've never seen a generator up there.

Note: Jim, He said in front of the V-berth, not under it.

I'm curious - does it get fuel from your primary tanks? Do you have a separate blower up there for the compartment it's in?

Have you run it?

Troll?

I can't imagine HOW this would be an option - both from a practical/space issue and a safe issue. BUT, it's a moot point. I think, regardless if it was an original option... do you really think it's safe to have fuel lines running though a living area, let alone an old, dirty CO producing device literally inches from where you sleep - separated by a bulkhead that is likely not well sealed anymore?

However, I looked at an old paper brochure... it is not listed as an option. Also, the pictures of the interior appear to be the normal pictures we would expect with no physical room for a genny.

You're going to have to post some pictures for us.

At nearly 40 years old and who knows how many previous owners, there's no telling what "modification" may have been done over the years. Did you by chance buy this boat from an estate after the owner passed away?

This guy is trolling. He pops up and then disappears. What he is asserting is not possible from a space perspective. Sort of wierd. Suggest ignoring him.

Hi
I have not run the generator yet. My boat has only one 100 gal. tank. Yes the gen. compartment has a blower on the starboard side and a fresh air inlet on the port side.

Hi

I'm not sure what trolling means unless we are talking fishing. You seem really upset with me, sorry if I've offended you as that is not my intent.

Hi

I bought the boat from a young man who was moving out of state and had another boat so sold me the second one.

I guess it isn't a good idea to run a gas line thru the occupied spaces in a boat but that said, there is a 100 gal. gas tank on the other side of the aft berth bulkhead :).

I do intend to upload some pictures, going to work on the boat tomorrow so will get pictures then.

Thanks for your reply.

Have not run the gen. yet. There is a blower and fresh air intake in the gen. compartment.

As an Architect with nearly 40 years experience, a licensed contractor, restorer of classic cars and sprint car builder & crew chief IMO I am qualified to judge if there is adequate room for a gen. set and there is.

Gentlemen

I've taken a number of picks, hope to be able to transfer to my computer then pose here. Sorry about the delay, I'm trying.

Hello again. I am now going to TRY to attach some photos of the generator in my 260 sundancer.

Would you like photos of the trailer and the Pontiac wagon and the 88 Mustang GT convertible and the two Fiat 124 Spiders and the 96 F350 Dually and the 95 Blazer and the 305 sprint car and the 360 sprint car?
