340 SUNDANCER THREAD

I’m looking to replace my hot water heater. I haven’t decided on a replacement unit yet, but what ever I get, it will be another 6 gallon unit, and very similar in demotions to the original unit. Possibly I’ll get the Kumo 6 gallon unit, as it worked well in my last boat. Im also open to suggestions too.

Can anyone with 7.4 MPI’s tell me if it will come out w/o removing the exhaust elbow, or worse the entire manifold.

TIA
Michael

What's wrong and why replace? If its not getting hot just replace the element. Unless the tank is leaking all else should be repairable.

Yes, the picture posted was upside down. Not sure why it uploaded that way, but my HWH is under the holding tank pump.

Kevin, thanks for reaching out earlier today. I didn’t make it to HD, but will try tomorrow and see if they have that valve in stock.

Ok after long weekend with new tabs.

Before when heavy with fuel and water.
.64mpg and when lighter .7mpg 24-26mph

Now loaded with fuel and water and stuff for 3 and 2 nights. .92mpg and 1.01 a@ 28-30mph depending on direction. So a solid .3mpg. On average and 3-4 mph..

I will say the bottom paint is new with the tabs so some can be accounted for that. But wow at the difference the way the boat ride on top water, bump a tab and the boat responds.

This seems like a great upgrade. Now I have something to add to my wish list .

I assume you bottom wasn’t in bad shape? I am asking b/c I know that can make a difference. I gained 3 mph after doing mine. However, the bottom of my boat was nasty. It looked like the P.O. had the marina paint it with an old mop. After media blasting, 4 coats of barrier and some nice paint this spring it’s nice and smooth. I can’t speak to my fuel efficiency gain (or loss) b/c I haven’t used it enough yet this season. But I have a 3mph gain at 3,200, 3,400 and same at 3,600 rpm.

My bottom was not in bad shape, but it did get a new bottom job while out. No blisters, just was fuzzy.

I am sure 0.2 of the gian was from just that. as the mpg and speed with zero tabs increased by that much. but the larger tabs allow it ro pick up that extra 0.1 and another mph or 2 by not running them all down all the time.

I have been hanging out for a few days. Taking a sea trial on a new to us 2000 Sea Ray 340. The survey is Tuesday. Looking forward to spending time on it with the family.

I’m selling my 2000 340 right now. It’s a marvelous boat honestly John. Hope you enjoy it for a while.

The boat ran great. Topped out at about 4200 rpm. Bottom hasn’t been cleaned in a while. Will see how it does after the bottom survey. Is there a secret to opening hanging storage?

When you run your had along the edge of the door frame, you will feel a groove, or indentation, and that will indicate the way the door swings.

On my 01, both of the forward lockers swing forward- towards the bow. The rear locker swings forward too.

Replacing the lowrance hds5m with a new unit. Would you use garmin, lowrance or raymarine? Would use install a in hull, thru hull, or transom mounted transponder.

Happy to hear.
Check your engine label. I think my 7.4L mercs are rated at 4400-4600

I used a digital DST transducer and replaced the old analog DST transducer.

I had to make the hold a little bigger but it was awesome.
Here was my electronics upgrade.

I thought it was time that we start up a 340DA thread...Me and the wife started boating 3 years ago and fell in love with it. We where planning on moving up from our 23ft bowrider to a 340 last season but we had to hold off. We are planning to move up this season. We are looking at the 340 with the 8.1's, radar/chartplotter, spot light, front sun pad with s/s runners, under swim platform lighting and the fixed soft top. I'm on the fence with getting the generator. Any suggestions or comments would be great.

We have owned our 340 for about 6 weeks now and have our dock all set up and are making ourselves at home. I would like to hook up to the city water on our dock to save the water in our holding tank. Is there a valve that I need to turn on to switch from the holding tank to the dock hose? We use a charcoal/carbon filter at the dock stand.
