39 Sea Ray Express Mattress

Get a big piece of memory foam and cut to fit with an electric carving knife. I did mine last year. It came out great and its cheap. Custom mattress is going to be $$$$

Just order a memory foam mattress from walmart or amazon and cut it to fit. Not rocket science.

I had a custom made Tufted Topper made last year that fits on top of the original cushions.

The transformation is hard to describe. This on top of a foam mattress would make for a real home mattress feel.

Pricey but well worth it.

Always remember the later model had a full bed. Not open on the side running to the hull sides the end is rounded in a half moon shape. The complete assembly becoming sort of a of a trapezoid. This in effect would be taking into consideration a different amount of foam design. No I am not a rocket scientist. Although I was a Nuclear Instructor.

Hey Doug, I'm looking at doing a memory foam mattress replacement on my 1994 400 Express--as you correctly point out, the mattress on these particular boats has an odd shape due to their placement, with an extra "wing" towards the bow and the radiused edge towards the cabin.

Did you end up doing the memory foam, and if so, what size did you end up needing? I was thinking of taking that route and just getting a queen size to make sure I fit the bed entirely, but if a full size fits, I'd rather save the cash.

Also, what thickness did people find was best? I know you can find memory foam mattress thicknesses from 2" to 12". Thanks!

I have not done anything yet. Looking into the project further this winter. Will up date. Once I get into it.

A little late on this thread, but I plan to do this Tochta mattress (the Utopia model) at some point in the next year or so. Can probably get it pretty close to exact fit with the builder tool. Mine will be chamfered on the upper corners, fillet on the lower corners. I haven't measured, but I think there's a trapezoid shape aspect, wider at the head than the feet, so I'll have to contact them for a custom cut. I believe they can do the sheets in the same custom cut as well. Better get two sets.

We installed the Froli system about 15 years ago and it has worked perfect.....just google Froli system.

Very interesting system. Not too expensive either. Did you use this to enhance your OEM mattress, or in conjunction with a new mattress?

Rod Buster
We used it in conjunction with the original mattress, another benefit is that it creates an air space below the mattress eliminating any moisture from condensation. You can customize the support to fit your needs.
