40 sedan bridge forum

44 days til Spring! I am thinking my forward AC unit is DEAD, a charge at the beginning of last year and it was low on pressure again in my 2002 400.
I searched the thread and saw people replaced the salon unit that is a 16000BTU.
Did anyone replace the forward AC unit? I think it is a 12000btu if I recall I would like to keep the same SMXII controller and plug and play if anyone knows the part number. I did look in my owners manual and couldn't find the part number there either.
Thanks again. This is a great thread.

I have an SXR 12-Q5 (original) 12000 btu. Dometic shows a 10000 and a 16000. They list the 16 as the replacement for the 12 to 16k btu units.

You want this model "https://citimarinestore.com/en/ctm-...0-btu-marine-air-conditioner-115v-24101c.html:" and adapter "https://citimarinestore.com/en/part...le-plug-smxirht-a-288c-a-282nc-290340229.html"

that said and all you need, I also upgraded both of my displays with this.

https://citimarinestore.com/en/part...easytouch_model-8_pin_connection_without_wifi

worth every penny!!! PS no affiliation with Citi marine. They just really help out and went above and beyond for me. I had a display fail, and they first me a replacement with a return box and then fixed my original and sent it back which is why I have both as new touch screens. a 2 for one if you will. And I am on year three with them.

enjoy!

Has anyone had any success replacing the weather-stripping around the trunk door on the swim platform? The little bit that is remaining on mine looks as if it was flat to begin with, and I'm not sure that it ever did much to keep the water out anyway. I am in the process of re-fiberglassing the bottom of the trunk because the moisture had started to rot it away and I'd like to make it as weather resistant as possible( though the cable pass thru grommet design makes that effort mostly futile) .

I didn't refiberglass mine, instead I finished it with starboard. The weather stripping can be bought at home depot or any hardware store, clean off the old and install the new.

Was yours rotted also? Is this something a 40 DB shopper should look out for?

Yep. It's a bad design. Mine wasn't as bad as Burnin Daylight's was, so I cleaned it up, made a pattern and cut out starboard, then screwed it to the deck and silicone the edges to make it water tight.

Where does the water get into that area. I will definitely get more up close and personal with the next one I'm on.

Mainly the weather stripping wears out and starts leaking. Also, the hawes pipe at the bottom for the power cables isn't the best design and of course lets water in.

I'm hip to the hawse pipe, but what's the deal, there is no drainage and the bottom get's damaged/penetrated and wet?

Yea, there's drainage, just was poorly designed IMO. Knowing it would constantly be wet, I think they failed on not sealing the area properly.

Thanks' a lot Capt. I'm on it, I may have to read this thread from the beginning again (for the 3rd time) as I don't recall hearing about this before.

Hmmm.. Do you think someone added that, or did my previous owner remove it (and all traces of adhesive) when it started to fall off years ago? No gasket on mine, and I wonder if it would make any difference if there was.

I just looked at the Parts Manual and it doesn't call for or show a gasket, which leads me back to the comment I feel it's a bad design by SR that allows leaks.

There was no weatherstripping installed at the factory. Any there now was installed by an owner.

For what it's worth, I'm not convinced the weatherstripping is very effective in keep the moisture out. I'm pretty sure the majority of the moisture enters from the Hawse pipe opening. Adding to the problem on my boat was the fact that the drian ports on either side of that Hawse pipe were about a quarter inch above the deck so there was zero effective draining......

Yeah, kind of figured that a gasket wasn't a factory thing. No drain ports on mine either. I have a sheet of dry deck in there to keep the stuff off the floor. nothing ever gets wet in there, as in water coming in from the top or sides. Just fills up through the hause pipe a little. floor is solid.

Same here. Floor is solid. I vacuum out the water every now and then. On mine those two little drain holes are pipes to the bottom of two of the rod holders. And a previous owner added a rod holder right in the center of the top of the door, so that just dumps water in there as well.

I haven’t checked height for gravity drain, but might work to put a drain line in the center of the floor and tee it into the drain line for the engine room opening in the cockpit.

Looks like a major project. Thanks for the heads up. I gave that area some attention a couple years so looked back at some photos. Ill have to keep an eye on it.

Just an fyi; While you're in there if you remove the water side panel you can squeeze a bit more storage as well. I fashioned an aluminum shelf and lowered the hose hookups. Now I can fit the stern anchor and rope in there...

Can anyone confirm what this is behind the master tv? Believe its a little compressor but for what? Seems small for the horn and states to oil it every 4 months (not in a location condusive to oiling at all). Clear tube runs forward and has trace oil in it. Windlass lubrication system?
