40 sedan bridge forum

Looking at purchasing a new to me 400db. I have a few I am looking at. Are there any real differences between a 2000 and 2001. Both I am looking at have the cat 3126 motors.
Not really. Unless one has the three stateroom layout, or the different seating layout on the bridge, they should be virtually identical.

Apparently nobody else does either.

I have never seen, or heard of, this being a factory option. I’ve seen it on the 480 but not the 400. It’s not on the parts list (even as an option) for my boat. If you’ve seen one, it’s likely an owner installed option. We’ve looked at a few washer dryer combo units on Amazon. If we got one for longer treks we would just put it in the second head so it could drain through the floor. Nothing permanently installed.

Yep, pretty much the same. Slight badging differences maybe, and 2000 will have cored hull sides. Change away from coring in the hull sides was sometime in the mid 2001 model year run I believe, so the 2001 you are looking at may or may not be cored in the hull sides.

Anyone know what this is? Found it on the floor of my bilge right in front of my gen. Cummins engines.

Threaded on the inside? Metal or rubber? Metal? Adjustment collar for a pipe wrench?
I have no idea. Doesn’t look like anything in my er that I am aware of.

this is fun, guess the ring. it looks like the back of a metal tube torch

Where is the kill switch located?

Hopefully the other Cummins folks in here can steer me in the right direction.
I have the 6CTA 450 Diamonds. At what RPM does everyone feel their turbos spool up?
I had some work done to mine over the offseason and while the cruising speed is identical to prior years i feel like the Turbo doesn't really assist until about 2000 RPM's. I felt like prior to last year it spooled up between 1600-1800 but I could be mistaken.

i can’t give you a specific from memory but I do know mine spool up before 2000. But probably pretty close (my tachs read 50 and 100 rpm low). So I’d say mine kick in around 1800? But again, this is kind of a guess. And my observation of when the turbos kick in is all done by ear.

My boost needles just start to lift off the pins at 1380 (digital tachs).
There’s no real “kick in the pants”, it’s all very smooth, but they’re spooled up and adding plenty of power in the 1700-1800 range. Without gauges it’s a guess, but if you are not hazing any smoke while accelerating and it runs well and reaches wot++, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. However if you are sure it’s not performing as it did before the service work, it should be mentioned to the shop that did the work.
For reference:

Thanks for the details. Did you add the boost gauges to your helm?
I'll pay more attention to it next weekend when I get back on the boat.
I think I was still able to get to 2650 at WOT so I wanted to just wonder if something was showing a premature issue.
Thanks again all

Hey Capt’s! My Westerbeke lost power to the boat and I had to buy a new generator. (I could’ve sent it to get repaired but due to parts I had no idea on when I would get it back.) I wanted to let you all know that I went with the Phasor 8.5KW and this thing ROCKS! Super quiet and efficient!

I also purchased all new interior lumitec lights that have white, dim white, red and blue. The red ones seem to keep the bugs away at night as well. I can’t believe how clear the lights look on each color.
