40 sedan bridge forum

I'm planning to change my transmission fluid on my 454's. It's a hurth marine transmission hsw 630 a1. What oil do I need to use?

If anyone is at their boat in the next few days. Any chance you could get me the measurements (mostly wanting to know height) of the floor storage under the galley floor? Looking to see if a small freezer will slide under the floor there? Thanks in advance.

The height is 17" to the top of the hatch frame. It is 13 1/2" to the bottom of the hatch frame. The length is a little over 6'. We have to much crap in there to get a good measurement. The width is about 21".

Mine is 71 1/2" long.

Just what I needed. Thanks

Has anybody replaced the striping / 400 Sedan decals on their bridge? Mine is due to be redone and my plan is to reach out to the local vinyl guy. However, I figured I would check to see if anybody has had a shop successfully do the retrofit. If so, it may be much easier to buy the vinyl from your shop if they still have the artwork on file.

Thanks in advance!

When we refit the boat we just removed them altogether. Compound and waxing took most of the shadow off. (See our photo). Also went to a single boot stripe.

Strictly personal preference, but we like the clean look.

It seems on most new boats, stripes are out. Just a thought. Good luck!

Got around to finally finishing the job. I stained the flexible moulding to match (as best I could) and attached it with DAP Weldwood contact cement.

I need to keep this thread away from my wife. I don't need any more projects. Looks good

My Head System breaker keeps tripping, I have 2001 400 DB , uses the VG4 vacuum generator system, the 2 toilets are full of water, and there is not way to start the head system, as soon as I pass the breaker with 5 seconds it trips again.
This happen this weekend , I have guess using the guest toilet and suddenly the entire system stop working at all.
Does this happens to anyone, what can be the problem?
I think one of the bellows is stuck with something causing the pump to be unable to move and this can cause the breaker to trip?
We have two pumps, how can I know which one is bad?
Any help....

Fernando, I recommend opening a new thread in the Maintenance and Repairs section and post it there. Give it a good title that will draw in more than just our model owners. Like "Vacuflush breaker constantly tripping" or something like that.

Both vacuum generator are on the same circuit, and you need to disable the bad unit. You have 50/50 odds on picking the right one. Under the bed in the 2nd stateroom is the vacuflush pumps. You need to clip one of the wires to isolate the bad unit

Ok, good idea, I will clip one and see which one is bad.

Just curious to see what everyone is using for anchors on this boat? Currently installed, there's a 35# delta style anchor with 30' of chain. For my last boat (32' cruiser), I went a bit overboard and purchased a Rocna 15kg, which is 33 lbs. I loved LOVED that anchor. Set it and forget it. I kept the Rocna when I sold that boat and I'm thinking about switching anchors and putting the Rocna 15Kg on the 400DB. But is it too small? I'm curious if anyone else is using that anchor on this boat.

We do plan to anchor out a lot, and spend many nights on the hook.

All-

If anyone is need of a bimini cover or selected strataglass curtains for a 400DB, please see my recent post in the Classifieds section. We recently changed all canvas from the toast tweed color to black. Thank you.

The factory delta anchor (45#??) holds the boat well....at least on southshore LI. We've been in some heavy winds, and 30' of chain with a lot of scope has worked flawlessly.

Paul, I think the 2001 and later have 45lb anchors, or so the parts manuals say.

Hi, I remove the old ones, and I print a new ones with a more modern look with a big 400 number, I personally like it better. here is a picture, It was really tough to remove the old signs, the thing that worked the best was the 3M drill eraser.
