I am about to commit to a new 400 Fly but am having second thoughts as to if I should hold out for a used 16' or 17'. A 16' will be about $100k less but of course finding that new of a used boat is not all that easy but they do come up. Any thoughts as to the advantages of new other than warranty for that much savings? Anyone own one and what do they like and dislike about the boat?

You should see a lot more depreciation than $100K in the first year or two.

This is a low volume boat......you are probably going to be waiting a while.

But, Marine Max in Panama City Florida has a blue hull 400Fly that has been in inventory about a year. I suspect they will make you a deal on it, and you get a new boat warranty. Have it surveyed before you buy it and look at the condition in person......MM is known to use inventory boats extensively for their get-aways. They don't do many in Panama City, so I suspect the boat is nice.

Take half the savings and tuck it into a maintenance account. Boom. there's your warranty.

I've been looking at them for a long time now. This is in my top two boats that I want next (the other is the 42 Cantius). I sold my 250 SLX two months ago, so the hunt is on AND has been on or 9 months. I would never buy new again, NEVER. Too much depreciation, and too many defects from the factor to justify being new again. You can get a 2017 slightly used or a 2016 slightly used for $500,000.00. New ones are $700,000.00+ easily. The factory warranty transfers on engines and hull (within a certain time frame), so you still have the warranties plus extra 200k in your pocket. The flybridge doesn't interest me just because the extra 1800 lbs that you pushing around. I've been on about 6 of them from Austin Texas to Jacksonville Florida.

Thanks for the heads up. I contacted them and they are anxious to sell. I think the reason it has not sold is the way they optioned it. No hydraulic swim step, no teak, no inverter, no cockpit table etc. that all being said they want to sell at 660 but I think they will still go down a bit. Not the boat I want. I think it is going to be hard to find a 16' or 17' that will be discounted enough to make it worth while. Did I mention I'm on the west coast....

I have yet to see a 16' for 500k. Always asking way above 600k. If I could find one I would jump on it. Also I understand the 400 is built in a different factory than your 250 and is night and day with regard to quality. That may explain your issues with new or maybe not? Thanks for your thoughts.

I have yet to see one with more than that. They seem to be holding some value I guess.
