2007 40 Sundancer with Stainless Windshield. The factory snaps for the front isinglass are deteriorating to the point that they are almost inadequate to keep the glass up. Would like to replace them, but they are riveted into the frame and I'm a bit skittish about drilling them out. Definately dont want to crack the windshield.

Any pointers or best practices?

Also, what snaps would be the best replacement? I'm not confident that the remaining hole will accomodate a standard #8 Base with a stainless screw.

Thanks for any help!

Drill out the old pop rivits that hold the snaps on and replace them with new stainless steel pop rivits in new stainless snaps. I believe they are 1/8" pop rivits and as long as you don't get aggressive and force the drill bit ....by a new HS drill bit and let the bit do the work......all you are doing is drilling out the rivit. The holes are positioned behind the glass so there is no danger of drillling into glass.

i have the same problem with my 380 did you drill them out. the other owner did some but dont know he did them but they are screwed in now on some

I did just what Frank said.

Tip: use a pair of pliers wrapped in painter's tape to prevent scratching and hold the snap base that's attachedto the windshield, otherwise, it'll just spin on ya. Get quality stainless snaps like DOT stainless snaps. Trust me, don't cheap out here. This is WAY easier than you think it will be.
