410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

It really is ideal. We put the cushion from the cockpit that goes over the step (starboard side) in between them and they're quite separated. They setup all their stuff and create a bit of a wall between them

My daughter is 52" tall now...I think...and she is still good to go on the starboard side as pictured. The port side of the midcabin is a bit shorter...sadly.

that’s great. Being young and 4 years apart I think we’ll get some good years out of that setup too. And then I can still get up before the family to sit in solitude for a half hour ;)

I'm in my 4th season of running 3 kids with the setup below in the midcabin of my 400. Currently they are at 12, 10 and 7 and still all loving it. I've even had a full sized dog sleep with them on the floor a time or two.

The top bunk will fit a full size human with plenty of room to spare. I think I have another season until one or both of my younger kids will be too tall to sleep in this orientation on the cushion/bed portion. Ideally when that happens I'll have them rotate 90 and sleep head to toe. If they can't tolerate that level of closeness I'll have to start using the couch. Either way, plenty of room for 3 back there...for now.

Where did you get that bunk, was it a factory option or did you make it?

Negative. 400’s did not have the bunk. I built that setup in the photo from scratch.

oh, really? Well nice job cus it looks factory lol

I could’ve sworn our friends with the 400 had one but he may have built it as wel

I wish! Would have saved me learning the hard way that this bunk needed to be hinged to get it in there! Ha.

This might be a 410 only thing (not sure how the 400 cabin door is) but who has removed their sliding hatch on the cabin doorway (the top part) ?

Mine squeals and I'm pretty sure the trucks are broken. First glance it looks like I need to cut the silicone on the dash piece it slides under, remove the windshield support, and it will lift off the track. If that's the case its going to be a winter project

Starboard Wiper Motor

Hi,

My STBD windscreen wiper motor / wiper has stopped working. The small shaft between the motor and the wiper blade has broken off. The motor still goes... I also need to replace the wiper arm boot assembly where the shaft comes through the deck in front of the windshield. Any hints for the best fix for this...?

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this...

Cheers,
Pete

Can anyone tell me where the shift module for a 2001 410 Sundance is. It’s electronic. Blue black green black wire disappear out of engine room. Don’t see it under helm. Is it to the right of your feet when at the helm. Behind speaker

Hey Just wanted to say hi to the group. I just completed sea trial and surveys on a 2002 410 Sundancer. All went well so I am reasonably sure (enough to post here anyway) the deal is going to go through. This will be my first boat (Yacht?). I do not even know how to drive it yet.

Initially it will primarily be used as a waterfront weekend condo in Oxnard Ca for my wife and me. Once I gain a bit of confidence at the helm though it will be making frequent trips to Catalina and the surrounding area. We have a house in Avalon hence that being a primary destination for us. No more Catalina Express for me... hopefully.

awesome. Post some pics when you can, and some detail on the boat (engines, options, etc)

you’ll love it!

Here is a quick photo from the haul out taken today. (Assuming it shows up)

She's got a pair for Cat 3126's with less than 500 hours on each. The port engine was actually just rebuilt and both turbos are brand new. Previous owner replaced them unnecessarily while chasing the problem that ultimately resulted in the engine rebuild.

I had oil samples pulled during the survey as I want to make sure the other engine is scrutinized carefully but they both ran smoothly today without a hitch.

I was shocked at the ride to be honest. There were some decent sized swell off Dan Point today but the ride was still quite nice. I was also surprised how slow 20 knots felt in the boat. Felt like we were barely moving.

beauty. I feel the same almost every time I take it out, even in the close interval Great Lakes that’s usually more chop than swell. For only a 40’ boat they are very heavy and pretty balanced (considering it’s a V drive)

sounds like you did all your homework so I’m sure you know this but make sure you run her up to WOT and it makes at least 2800 rpm fully loaded. With all those new parts in that expensive engine room you’ll want them to last a very long time.

They did methodically step through the RPM range all the way up to WOT. Both surveyors were pleased with how it performed. Frankly I had no idea what I was supposed to be observing so I am deferring to them. I should have the report on Monday so I will be able to read the results a lot more closely.

The problems that were found are one oil leak in the rebuilt engine. The mechanic who worked on it is going to look at it tomorrow and diagnose/repair the issue. One dripless seal is not quite dripless and the gen doesn't start (most likely a dead battery).

The oil issue will be covered by the mechanic and I am not worried about replacing the battery. The only issue I have any amount of concern about is the shaft seal, because it sounds like it can be pretty pricey if it needs to be replaced. Not a deal breaker though.

At the end of the day it is a clean Sea Ray in California. Been looking for one for almost a year and have learned you have to have all your financing lined up, and get an offer in within hours of it being listed. Otherwise it will be gone.

Fantastic, sounds like you found a good one. I have heard they’re rare birds out west and not just the 410 but nearly all of the popular models

She looks very clean. I miss my 400DA and its robust simplicity.
It's rare for these Cat engines to have an oil leak; hopefully something simple.
As long as the shaft isn't bent the seal is SOP - not a big issue other than the cost of labor to change.
I would worry more about a properly functioning generator; they are expensive little buggers to repair and not many know their electrical configuration other than Sea Ray back in the day and some of the members on this forum.

I hear you about the gen. I will make sure to confirm it is in fact just the battery.

While the oil leak is concerning, Quinn Marine is taking responsibility for it as they just performed major work on that engine and the leak is likely related to their work (hopefully just a fitting or something simple). The boat was out of the water with that engine being rebuilt when I made the offer, and it has only been run a couple of times since the work was completed (one of them being my sea trial). They have been very responsive and are looking at the leak today. I trust all those issues will be resolved by them before I take ownership.
