410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

I’m going to do this upgrade as well, but just for the record, I like the look of yours with the the polished bezel. The black blends in but to me it emphasizes the smallness of the new gauge. You end up with too much black. I’ll be doing my install just like yours.
Looking forward to seeing your upgrade TitanTn. I'm sure it'll look great.

This is what I purchased: 8905R-P-H-DS Tachometer with Polished Bezel, however due to my final installation if I were to do it over again I would have gone with the black bezel.

Great thank you. I think you're right, I do like the polished look like you did but now that I've seen the black seems like it does look more "factory".

Just so I fully understand, these are plug and play with existing wiring and require no calibration etc correct?

When I bought them I had no idea how I was going to mount them, and that's why I bought the polished so they'd match the other gauges. The idea to mount them inside of the existing Teleflex gauges just kinda came to me after thinking it over, and staring at them for awhile.

There are instructions online as well as in the box. The wiring matched up, and then it was a matter of selecting the number of teeth from my flywheel (you have a selector on the back of your existing Teleflex gauge for this also). It's been a couple of years, but I believe that's all it was.

Thanks for your help. I'm ordering these this week!

Just hauled and my trim tab and main transom zincs are entirely gone except for the mounting bolts. My dock neighbors were fine. Any idea what would cause this or where I should start to look?

Thanks!

Has anyone added Bennett’s 3” Drop Fins to the stock 24 x 12 tabs on their 410’s?
If so, what were the results?

I do not want to hijack the 400 DA forum, but I installed the drop fins on my 310 and they made a SIGNIFICANT difference, at least in my opinion. I would venture to guess that you would see an improvement in your 400 as well. Was already thinking of adding them to my 380, as I feel that she is just a bit stern heavy...

Thanks for the info!
Hoping that someone that has put them on my era 410 can share their experience since there are slight differences in hull/transom design between models and years.
Because of design differences, I’m not sure that what works on one model would do the same thing on another.
I called Bennett a couple of weeks ago and they told me that because my transom is not at 90 degrees in relation to the side of the hull there is a chance that the drop fins may act as rudders. The guy I spoke to explained that it could be the reason that the Sea Ray engineers have the outside edge of the factory tabs dropping down a bit more that an inch, and the inside edges flipped up an equal amount.
He suggested that I try to find someone with the same year and model that has installed them to see how it worked out for them.

As a matter of fact, my 310 had the same transom / side relationship. Indeed, the drop fins did give it bit of rudder action, however the increase in tab action was dramatic. If you installed them with nuts and bolts, you could take them off mid-season if you don't like them.

What kind of improvement did you see after installing them? What kind of improvements did you get?
What king of rudder action did you experience?
I think I’m going to stick to the recommendation from the guy I spoke to on the phone from Bennett and try to find someone with the same boat, and diesels, to see what their results were before installing them, but still appreciate hearing real world experience from others.

I noticed much more tab action. Before I could barely get the bow down to achieve better visibility, after I installed them I could bury the bow if I liked. Regarding rudder "effect" when moving straight ahead and with tabs in equal elevation, if I lowered either tab the boat would turn slightly in that direction. Since I almost always had the tabs equal, there was no issue for me. Certainly it would be great to hear from someone who put them on the same boat as you. I'm interested as well, as I am thinking about putting them on the 380...

Launched the boat today after a long winter. Did a few updates this year including removing top stripes, changing lower stripe to black and silver, updated round sea ray logo, "express" and "four ten", and updated "sea ray" oval from the original scripted sea ray. I'm pretty happy with the results and feel like it has little more updated look. View attachment 55811 View attachment 55814

Bop ,what size arch emblems did you use ? The 11 inch or the 8 inch

Have a '97 400DA with 3116TAs - my zincs were gone when I pulled the boat, anyone know where the galvanic isolator(s) may be located on the boat? Figured I should start there to try to see if they are still working or not. Thanks!!

John

I believe it's behind the breaker panel... You need to unscrew the panel as it's hinged...

That’s where they’re located in my 410.
Also, look around on YouTube. A few years back I found a video describing how to test them on there.

Is there really enough weight from 250 ft of chain to make a difference
In keeping the bow down ? On a 2000 410Da gasser .
how much weight Does the chain add ?

What year 410 has the water tank in the v birth , at 100 gal that would ad 800# ?
Does that help ?
