Hi all, as I’m sure you’ve seen as I ask many questions about our new engines and boat, I’m going to re pitch the factory wheels on our 410 this winter. They are 22x23 at the moment. Long post so bear with me

I have added the aetna tachs and did a wot run yesterday. Full fuel, 1/4 water, all gear 2 adults and a child and our stuff. (our normal load)

no tabs, 10mph headwind, 1-2’ chop, clean bottom. we turned 2698 port, 2605 starboard.

I will be using SS propeller (as recommended on here) and they are very knowledgeable, but here’s my question - I don’t want to mask a problem on one side with a prop (100rpm delta between the two motors). What can I do to make sure we have the best chance to match the sides?

CAT has performed the overhead service less than 100 hours ago, they report they both turn up to the max no load rpm (I haven’t tested in my slip yet)

some other things I’ll be doing before the next wot test and winter layup: airsep cleaning and re oil, replacing breather filter (they’re non-OEM), replace racors, replace secondary fuel filters, check charge air hose clamps, and change tranny fluid/gear oil.

anything else I should do so I have an even test between both sides?

Is that 100 difference significant enough to be concerned about? The props are in good shape but we won’t know they truly match until they’re scanned. I’m thinking of having the prop folks repitch the high side to 2850 which should bring the low side up to near 2800

900 hours on the clocks for both engines

Well the racors seem to be a good start. They are very black - is this normal?

I did also shock the tanks with biobor and filled the tanks with fresh diesel this weekend. Each tank took about 75 gallons

Make certain your Racors and the engine mounted fuel filters are clean. Then also make certain that your air filters are clean and oiled properly. I would do this first, then perform another test run under the same parameters.

Without knowing that the engine is getting the proper amount of fuel and air, I wouldn't be chasing your tail.

I just cleaned the airseps with their kit and they’re drying now. They were absolutely disgusting! Hard to tell until you clean them but big hunks of dust and shit came out.

I’ll re-oil tomorrow, I have new breathers to install, and I’m picking up new CAT fuel filters from the local dealer tomorrow morning as well

Black means the biobar has killed a lot of bacteria. Once its all gone, the filters will be red again. Keep using normal doses each fillup, and shock at season's end per FrankW's instructions.

I have been following Franks’s fuel regimen for 2 years and about 220hrs now and all my racors are red, same color as the fuel. When I bought the boat they were a little black so I did a shock treatment of the fuel regimen and after about 500gal (2 tanks) each side I changed the filters again and they have been perfect since.

cool, I’m doing the same over the course of this year and next

As mentioned finish the fuel filters and airsep cleaning and retest. Without the same load, numbers will be a little different, but good enough.

The difference between the two sides could have a number of reasons. Might just be the one prop is more out of tune than the other. If your pulling them, the initial scan might provide a clue.

Racors and secondary filters replaced, new breather elements installed and oiled, airseps thoroughly cleaned and oiled.

I inspected the compressor side of the turbo and they both spin very freely with no runout I could feel by hand. Throttles are hitting the stops wide open.

Now just need some calm fall weather to clean her pipes out! I'll keep you all posted how I make out, hopefully can run it this weekend

Secondary filters weren’t pretty either. I’ll never know if this is from the biocide treatment on Saturday or just from normal use, but I expect them to be cleaner next time I change them. These filters have about 110 hours on them since April.

I’ll be cutting them every change to see how things improve.

ignore the shavings at the bottom, that’s from the saw opening the can. There is a lot of muck caught down there though
