420/44 DB Owners Club

can anyone tell me what secondary fuel filter is mounted on the Generators of our 420's? I am trying to buy spare filters before going to pick up new to me boat. I've already got the main engine filters but I neglected to check what the Genny had and I am almost 10 hour drive from boat so not easy to check.
Thank you

I have a 9kw gen: Onan-9MDKAV-3207

Gen Fuel filter-2nd stage
Onan/Cummins
part #149-2106
10 micron

(NOTE: If you change your secondary filter, you should also change your primary at the same time. See part numbers below):
Gen fuel filter-1st stage
Racor 500MA
2010TMOR
4 micron (Ideally, your secondary should be less microns than your primary, but I can't find a 4 micron secondary.)

Gen Oil filter
Onan/Cummins: 185-5835

Impeller parts numbers:
Cummins/Onan
Onan Impeller- #0132-0379 or
Cummins minor kit - 0541-1519 or
Sherwood 10077K

Take some blue shop towels and some painters tape and tape some paper towels in various places to see if you can determine where it is coming from. Likely not coming from them now, but leaking freshwater fittings are very prevalent on these boats.....

Great idea! Thanks

Remove the trim from the around the refrigerator, remove the 4-6 screws holding the refrigerator in, and pull it out. You will find 4 screws above the refrigerator that hold the microwave in place.....been there, done that...

If you go this route, a hint: only remove the screws on the sides. The top panel (with the adjustment screw) is screwed into the fridge proper and comes out with the fridge. (lesson learned).

I've had to replace my Microwave as well. A couple things to note: 1) It's plugged in, so the plug may have come loose. 2) When you use the convection mode it gets HOT. to better vent the heat, I had to jigsaw an additional 5x8 vent hole in the top. Used a small, but sturdy, black A/C return to cover the hole/vent the oven. 3) I couldn't find an exact replacement, so had to enlarge the hole. Be careful if you go this route, as you'll need to be exact on the tolerances so it's looks good. Hope it's an easy fix.

The key to the heat issue is to always run the vent fan anytime you use microwave....turn it on with the vent fan running and walk around to the vent outside on the starboard side and feel the heat the vent is moving.....

Perfect. They had them in stock. thx
Uggg...I just went with the seaboard ones last winter when i did the cooling system. May just pull them down and swap for these during my layup. Is it the 5" gasket?

They were in really bad shape...BTW, no response from Seaboard yet.

Someone else told me that too, but when I pulled the microwave I did not see a vent inlet located even near that space. Maybe my boat was setup differently.

Put it in convection mode, turn the vent fan on, and go outside and feel the air coming out.....never had a problem, but always ran the ran.

Wow, thanks for the detailed info!

Does anyone have details on the right sized cutlass bearing for our boat? Also where to purchase?Would like to pre-purchase so the yard can swap them out in the slings during a short haul.

I believe the Fleetguard FS19709 is a 3 micron first pass rated filter.

Having the marina do ours this spring as well - according to their quote, the size is 2" x 2 5/8" x 8". I requested they use Johnson Duramax https://citimarinestore.com/en/136-johnson-duramax-cutless-bearings
Can't imagine that our prop shafts are different sizes, but ... just check.

Should double check the lip seal (and that you have the spare on the shaft) while it is apart, would be disappointing to have to pull it apart again for a relatively inexpensive part. https://citimarinestore.com/en/25-tides-marine-lip-seals

Didn't get a chance to respond to your previous post on spare props - having mine repaired and tuned this winter. On my previous boat I bought a set (Bravo III) as spares .... never used them! need to get around to selling them. I'd say the cost to repair is significantly less than the cost of a spare set and if I hit something that ruins them then it will be a call to insurance. A spare set does buy you time while the others are out for repair but for our boating I don't think it is a good investment.

Thank you! Will double check with my marina to see what they come back with but we have identical boats. Yes I do have the spare on the shaft. As for the spare props I was hoping to pick one up use and cheap but not in a rush as they are costly. Had an incident where I found some rocks the week before labor day. My prop guy was able to get me back up and running in 3 days but that got me thinking a spare set would be nice but not willing to drop 5k on a set.

Do you know where Hale Propeller is , Old Saybrook,
Give them a call and have them keep an eye out for a set for you
