Wow, I had no idea. I guess I need to go get some test strips and check it out. Can you recommend a source to purchase those test strips from?
I still have lots to learn on the new to me diesel engines! Thanks for the help.
When I help people understand these engines I go into the engine room with them and point to and explain the purpose and maintenance of every part of the propulsion system. See if you can find someone in your area that can do that with you. It’s a good way for rapid learning.

Really awesome for you to do that!

Can somebody that has a larger transducer for showing bottom detail please take picture in bilge of where it is installed so I can see where I need to start? I have an Airmar B258 I’d like to install and right now there is only the small round transducer installed centerline just aft of the forward engine room bulkhead. It only gives digital depth but no bottom picture so I want to add a large transducer to show bottom detail for fishing. on the parts or owners manual it shows a second transducer starboard and slightly aft of the center transducer for Tri data gauge, but I don’t think putting a large transducer in front of engine water intake would be wise lol. Possibly between the starboard engine water intake and the keel?
Thanks for help

I can't help with this as i just have the basic depth, speed and temp transducers. Thought about adding something more robust but I don't fish so really don't have a need. Curious as to why you are going for more bottom detail. Am i missing out a useful feature?

two reasons- when we fish during the summer months in the Bahamas it’s very useful to see bottom detail since we are bottom fishing, and second, we also enjoy seeing interesting bottom detail when we are just cruising around our local waters.

In looking further at the space inside the bilge between the keel and the water pickups of either engine I’m almost certain there is not enough room there. anyone have one mounted outboard of the inner stringers between the front of the engine and the forward bulkhead of engine room?
Or any reason why that would not be good location?

If someone tells me how to post picture I can post one of the area I’m asking about

I have the Garmin GT23M-TH CHIRP Clearvu transducer. It's huge but the hugeness is all under the boat. It is mounted under the port engine towards the inboard stringer and has a fairing block underneath. It's probably 10 inches long and max 4 inches tall under the boat. It looks to stick up inside about 3 inches; has two bolts and the wire conduit. I can try to remember to get a picture next time I'm at the boat...

This transducer is quite large as well and as you said yours is, this will all be below the hull.
When you say yours is below the port engine, can you expand on what part of engine, and is it between the stringers the engine is mounted on or inside inner stringer towards keel?
If I mount mine where I mentioned before it will be abeam the water intake for starboard engine about 20" outside of the water intake. Close to the inner stringer but between stringers if that makes sense.

What is everyone using for coffee makers in the 420DB's? I have an empty coffee maker cabinet - boat did not have a coffee maker when I bought it and I need to get one for sure.
Thank you

Between the stringers where the motor mounts are; under the engine but offset towards the inboard stringer. It is around 8 inches away from the inner stringer towards the engine oil pan. In the first pic is the xdcr during installation. The second pic - can't see the penetration but it comes through the hull just on the other side of the fuel cooler.

Ok thank you! helps a lot. Can you think of any reason not to install in the open space immediately in front of engine so as to not have obstruction above the transducer, ie your oil pan?

I use a nespresso coffee maker. It says plugged in, in that cabinet and just fits with the door closed. Stack dishes to the right of it.

In the case of the 52DB two reasons - One, that is where the lifting straps to pick up the boat are placed; the transducer cannot be under a strap. Two, there is a built-up box in front of the engines that spans between the stringers and not enough room. Your boat may be different.

Thanks - I will definitely check lift strap location before drilling. In the case of mine

Thanks, I’ll be checking location of lifting strap before drilling.
In the case of my space in front of engine there is no built up box. See the attached photo

Does your model have a lift up handle in front to change out the brew cups and works while in the cabinet? Or do you have to pull it out to fill water and make coffee?
