Looking to upgrade the muffler on the genset. Has anyone changed their muffler out that makes it noticeably quieter?

I upgraded to a 2 stage water lift muffler. Made a huge difference on a Westerbeke 7.6. I wish I would have gone for the water separating as the water splashing is the biggest noise from the exhaust (this can be added afterwards). I still have a 6"x 9" 2" In/Out muffler if you want to try a second muffler. A short section of 2" hose would let you see if this set up meets your needs. http://clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/centek-muffler.95739/

I also redid the isolators. That got rid of the vibrations to the boat and the associated noise. http://clubsearay.com/index.php?thr...vibration-noise-reduction.95727/#post-1094777

The last part of my genny silencing project is going to be a soft sided sound sheild.

ASH....do you have any pictures of your set up? Which in-line did you use?

I bought it from Defender Marine. It is Centek Vernalift in line muffler. Item number 300254. I simply cut the 2 inch exhaust line approx 6 inches from where it exits the thru-hull. I stuck the new muffler in then supported it from the top. I also made a small plywood support for the bottom. It was really a tight area to work, the effort was well worth it!!!!

I am not sure if I have a pic and I am 6 hours from my boat.

I don’t think I want to tinker with a 2 stage. My muffler/gen is on the port side. Best to get exact measurements for the upgrade and then see if I can tackle. Thanks!!

Did you keep the original one and added this one or changed both?

The 2 stage looks just like the original, just a little taller. I put a pic on here some where. I was going to another inline, but didnt want that complexity. The 2 stage was about $300 and fit in the same location with minimal maodification.

Does anyone know what type of belting is used on the straps that hold the bow sun pad down? Mine needed replacing last season because one strap broke and the others seemed to be disintegrating after 15 years. I bought some 1" polypropylene belting but after a couple of months it seemed to be degrading as well, maybe from being wet or from the sun?
Redid all of mine last winter with 1" Nylon webbing. Seems to be holding up well. The brand was Everlast. Home Depot, Lowes etc has it. Amazon as well

I get my stuff from Sailrite. They have the same webbing in a bunch of different colors.

Can anyone offer up any ideas as to why i keep burning out the bulb in the freezer located in the galley.
Thanks

Launch day! A little earlier than I planned but I want to get the boat out of Rhode Island and back to CT ASAP.
Any recommendations for the first startup of the season? (Other than opening the seacocks :) this is my first diesel boat. I’ve read the manual a dozen times over the winter but a little nervous about starting her up. so far I have shore power hooked up and heat running. It’s a start!

Nice boat.... just start it....look for water discharge out the side...one engine at a time. watch temperature... systems inside the only thing to watch is the water heater. Make sure it isn't bypassed and its full of water before turning on.
Start generator on its own....same thing watch discharge and temp
That's all I can think of

Was in the same position 3 years ago with my first diesel boat.
My maiden voyage was a 6 1/2 hour run from eastern Connecticut back home to the south shore of Long Island.
I was a little nervous for the first hour or so, but quickly adapted. Especially to the relatively stingy fuel burn.
Enjoy the ride!

Just curious- when you guys leave your boats, do you shut off the battery solenoids? I think I read in the manual you should, but never did with my last boat...

I leave mine on, but I also leave the AC Converter (battery charger) on.
Make sure the keys and engine breakers are in the off position in the panel.
Or, PM me the location of your dock and hours you won’t be there..............lol

I leave mine on as well and actually the keys in the ignition - off but still in! I do have cameras and a very well monitored marina - where are the engine "breakers" ? I leave my solenoids on - should i not?

My engine breakers are located on the 12 volt side of the electric panel near the ignition keys.
Yes, no problem leaving the batteries on, but you may want to leave the AC Converter on at the same time so your batteries don’t get run down if something draws on them while your away without you knowing about it.

If you leave your batteries on, keys turned on and ignition breakers on when you’re not there then someone can start your motors by simply pressing the switches at the helm.
Turning the breakers and/or keys off on your panel will keep the engines from being started at the helm.
