420 DA Thread

Ours stays off too. The wife loves it, but it's a PITA to get on and off. Plus, it attracts dirt and mildew. And I think the boat just looks better without it.

I was thinking of putting this underneath to see if it would solve most of the issues.

On to the next mystery. When we were going over everything our new found joy had to offer, the previous owner handed this (see photo) to me and said no one could tell him how to set it up. We suspect there are poles missing. It's definitely some sort of sunshade for the cockpit area. Ive tried every search term I could think of to no avail. no 420 or 44 for sale in the last 6 months has had anything like it in the listing photos.
The curved area has zippers and it zips up perfectly to the aft of the hardtop. The 2 corners that would line up with the stern have grommets as if for a pole-end to go through.
Appreciate any info or even a SWAG (scientific wild a** guess) or 2.

You don't need it. Just ship it to me. I'll even pay shipping.

;)

Looks like a sunshade for the cockpit. Probably has two poles that fit in the rod holders and hold it up.

I have thought of doing something similar just to extend the hard top to get a break from the sun... If you get it figured out post some pictures.

Thanks all, will try some tent poles and see if it starts to make sense.

I'm no.3, the previous owner had it for only a short time and 'found" the surprise canvas stowed well after he took possession. If I ever get it worked out, he would be interested in seeing it as well I think.

I’m having a sunshade panel similar made for our boat with extendable poles in rod holders for the back corners. I’ll post pics in spring.

I don't have rod holders. Is there an ideal place to install them?..does someone have a pic?.... I haven't looked close but seems to be some interference with the vent right there

I also want to use the rod holders for a grill.

At one point I was thinking of installing the rod holders but chickened out when it came time to cut the holes. It looks like that portion of the deck is cored and you'd need to be very thorough in making sure water didn't reach the coring. That said, I could be wrong about it being cored.

Please have whoever you use to make it keep the pattern. I'll sign up for one.

Gotta be cheaper than these.

here's a solution from ttopcovers
https://www.ttopcovers.com/gallery/photo-galleries/ultimate-boat-shade-kit
they would make it 11' at the hard top, 12' at the poles and 5' deep. black only. comes with 2 poles ($122.50/ea if purchased separately) and 6 sea sucker marine grade suction cups ($38/ea if purchased separately).
total $1,398.

The material I have is the mesh/sunblocker material. happy to pass along those measurements. We won't be pulling the wraps for a few weeks but as soon as we do I'll gladly post some pics and measurements once we figure out the pole situation.

I will be spending close to that much. I’m using Sunbrella Contour Fabric. https://www.sunbrella.com/en-us/fabrics/item/1901/2641-0000/Apex-Wren I’m trying to coordinate this with my flooring and will be trimmed with black to match my canvas.

Hope this is useful for starters. Let me know if I can

provide any more detail.

I laid it out as keeping the seams as straight as possible and came up with 102.5 inches wide outside dims. The points are 2 inches wide not including the zipper.
With Mother Natures blessing, we pull the wraps in 15 days, I'll zip this thing onto the aft of the hard top and confirm some more of the measurements first available opportunity.

Grill On Board - I want to add a propane grill to the boat that stays on board. I will use a rod holder to mount it when using. I am just curious if anyone keeps one on board and where they store it. There isn't a lot of room under the cockpit seats and I don't want it under the salon floor necessarily. If you do have a spot let me know make and model if possible... Thanks

I have a Magma gas grill that stays mounted to the back corner all summer.
Sorry pictures are not great
